Mystery box on windscreen.

Post by Arclight245 »

Hi there I'm new to this and recently purchased my first Caddy. (Caddy maxi highline 2019 2.0 TDI 150hp).
I bought this van privately and original owner was Costa Coffee.
I have a little black box with cable and connector coming from it into the dash. It does not look to be a stock part however as I said this is my first caddy. The box has three led indicators green, amber and red.

Does any body have any idea what it might be?

You need to upload your pics to an online host like postimages.org then copy and paste the hotlink for forums into your post.

It could be some sort of immobiliser possibly but without seeing your pic its hard to tell. Certainly doesn't sound a standard item.

It's a GPS tracker and driving monitoring device I guess fitted by Costa coffee.
It flags up if you break the speed limits or harsh driving like braking or steering movements... depending on what the company wanted monitoring a bit like the black box the insurance companies use.
The light will go from green to red the more harsh you drive the van.
On plus side you'd know the van wouldn't have had the nuts ragged off it...

Surprised Costa opted for a top spec van. Most companies go mid or low range.

Surprised myself only for the some of the original Costa paperwork and delivery runs were left taped to one of the barn doors.

I have a 2014 Costa van with the same. Pulled it all out when I fitted arm rest. Them 3 lights are for how wild your driving is lol. I also found a tracker in front center coin tray area and aerial o/s dash panel end. Hope they didn't chew into your wires and dodgy solder like mine.

I must look at removing the hardware and check the wiring.

I wonder is there a way of utilising the GPS tracking hardware. No harm to have a tracker fitted to the van if it was ever to be stolen.

Yes I suppose pal, think it's got a sim card in. If you want I can have a look to see if any company logos are on it if you wanted to pursue that option.

I think it's "Tracker Telematics Solutions" that supplies to the Costa fleet vehicles.
