Good evening guys,
Recently purchased a 1.9tdi 2008 Caddy.
Its been incredibly well look after, has 119,000 on the clock and is a DSG. I had a 1.9 tdi near identical about 6 years ago and remember it being a very economical van. This one however seems to be drinking fuel! Only had it two weeks, not doing mega miles but I've worked out its averaging just about 30mpg. I know its done a few miles and is nearly 12 years old which will be contributing but surely I should be getting better mpg?
Any help/advice/tips appreciated.
before anyone says it, I don't have a heavy right foot too
Tia

Re: Poor MPG
Hi Darren, welcome to the forum. You've mentioned in the other thread that it was remapped. Maybe it something to do with that, if not done correctly

Re: Poor MPG
Thank you!
Im a business owner and the company next door to me are Remapping and Tuning specialists. They plugged into to it for me as I mentioned it to them, it had already had a terrible map so they removed that. I ran it for a few days on standard map then they put their map onto it. Nothing made any impact on the MPG

Re: Poor MPG
How's the cam belt, has it been changed recently?
I know cambelt stretch can cause a problem with timing and the knock on effect is poor MPG. My old 1.9TDI used to respond greatly in MPG with a cambelt and oil service.

Re: Poor MPG
Another thing to look into are your tyres mate. Are they inflated correctly? Are they decent tyres? I know it won’t make a huge difference but it all helps.

No record of the belt being done recently, its on the list of things to do in the next month or two. Its a great suggestion thank you.
Checked the tyres last week and all ok

A quality injector cleaner may help a little too.

Re: Poor MPG
Is the 1.9tdi just poor for mpg in Caddy? My own only ever does 40/41mpg measured tank to tank. Not loaded and even one trip I kept to 60 on the motorway and it made no difference.

Re: Poor MPG
I’m getting 40-45 mpg from my remapped 1.9 TDI, however it is need of a service and cam belt change

What size wheels have you got on it ? I find the bigger the rim the worse the economy ......
