Parking heater with second battery?

Post by Marsum »

Hey, my 2018 2.0 102hp diesel has a factory fitted parking heater that's comes as standard on all caddy's here in Sweden. It can be started by a button in the dash, a set timer in the menus or by a small remote.

The manual says that a rule of thumb is that every minute used for heating should be followed by the same amount of time spent driving (e.g. 20min heat = 20min driving).
I'm keen to use the heater for longer times though, as I'm converting the van to a weekend camper and I've got a second 110Ah deep cycle AGM battery.

Can I connect the heater to my second battery?
If so, how many watts does the heater use?
Also, if anyone knows the part number / model number of the stock heaters that would be a great too.
Thanks! Cheers

Hi,
Disclaimer: Not an expert view.

Best to check your installed device for numbers if possible.
Otherwise you can look it up here

Though there may well be a variety of options ?

Power supply could be tricky.
There is power supplied to the unit, water pump and any controllers, and you would have to swap over between supply sources.
You may be able to use a supply swap system just for the main unit power - that will be the biggest current draw.
