warning light and supposed belt change

Post by carsounds_dan »

Hi
I picked up the caddy finally yesterday from the dealers... and drove 200 miles home.
On the way home a warning light came up and then went off (after 3 minutes). It was a little yellow/orange light showing a steering wheel, which was on solidly.
I also brought the van under the pretense that it would have had a cambelt change, I didn't check this out fully at the dealers as it was hammering down and I was getting annoyed, today after it's done 250-300 miles since this change I unclipped the top belt cover and had a look and the belt didn't strike me as being "new". It still has very noticable VW signs on it and text but has a some what brown discolouration to it. The van is on 80000 miles and I just wondered if this sounds alright or should I be banging on their door?
Many Thanks

Daniel

try this
Center steering wheel (±10°) and hold it centered for 5 seconds.
Turn steering wheel completely to the left and hold it there for a second.
Turn steering wheel completely to the right and hold it there for a second.
Center steering wheel (±10°).
Switch OFF engine and ignition.
Switch ON ignition.
Wait 5 seconds.
Steering Assist Warning Lamp should turn OFF. If it doesn't, perform a short test drive.

or vagcom if you have it

o the light came on and went off by itself.
the light is red when you first put the key in (all lights alight) and then goes out.. but at the time that it was lit it was yellow/amber..

The timing belt is not related I hope, I was only asking opinion on the matter, sorry for any confusion.
