Issues with cluster swap

Post by Ryzar1 »

Hey all I’m having some issues fitting my new cluster into my 07 caddy, behind the cluster there’s no void space there seems to be a metal block and I can get the new cluster which has the bulky adapter to fit properly has anyone encountered this problem at all?

The old connector is clipped into the steel frame. Just unclip it, and then push it backwards a bit.

I had to do that as well on my 2005 when changing to a color cluster.

Yes I’ve tried that but the new connector seems to be hitting the steel block still the new connector is vertical across the back of the cluster where the old one is horizontal

Have you removed the mounting frame from the original socket?
Any adaptors I've made or used always fit in the hole when the original is removed, leaving plenty of room for the new style instrument cluster to fit back.

We do the same as Doc above when we fit newer clusters to older vans. We remove the plug frame which makes it considerably smaller and easier to tuck away.
We usually pop a bit of tessa tape on the mating connector also just to ensure it doesnt come apart.
