HELP code P0073
Hi guys broke down this morning coil light flashing engine died as if run out of fuel, I had half a tank, all 4 injectors replaced about a year ago, managed to get it started again, coil light now off, engine management light on, light showing rear door is open when it’s not, no outdoor temp display, fuel gauge shows half full when ignition is on but then drops to empty within a minute or so. Got it home checked codes 1 fault P0073 ambient temperature sensor circuit high. Cleared code no engine light on but door light, fuel gauge still falling to empty and no outside temp display. Any ideas? If it is the sensor where is it located and is it an easy fix. Thanks in advance Phil

Re: HELP code P0073
Hiya,
First thoughts, as you’ve got door light and ambient temp issues, any chance you’ve had the wing mirror damaged lately? Don’t quote me on it but I believe the ambient signal is taken from the same sensor that does external temp on dash, but I’m not 100% if this is on wing mirror or behind bumper, if mirror mounted that could explain door light, dash issues including exterior temp, as in, mirror damaged, loom in door shorting out causing conflicting signals to info disp, another one to check is the door control modules and physically check the loom between the door and frame, I’ve repaired a couple of these now and usually the data line goes along with the speakers first. Have you got VCDS or VAG-CAN-PRO or a generic code reader? Only asking as you’ll get far more info with dedicated diagnostics.
Hope this helps a bit

Check with VCDS for codes. Also check for proper battery ground/connection.

Re: HELP code P0073
Thanks for your help, no mirror damage, and I just have a generic code reader, door open light went off today, fuel gauge still acting up I’m now thinking that could be something to do with the fuel lift pump, fingers crossed it’s not. I’ve ordered a new sensor, it is located behind the lower grill wiring seems ok, will fit it an hope all will be ok.

Where abouts are you?
I’m Cambridgeshire and mobile, you could really do with a proper scan before chucking money at it to be honest.
