Is it possible to fit 'normal' rear bumper on a WAV caddy maxi?

Post by Surf Caddy »

New to forum. Just acquired 2016 maxi with middle part of rear bumper split and cut out in floor for wheelchair ramp access.

I've removed the ramp, does anyone have experience fitting an original rear bumper to replace the split one? I'd imagine all the fixing points were lost when they cut the floor out?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Show us a photo of what you've got left to work with. I imagine you could get creative with some L brackets underneath and fit a top centre bracket to the fold out part if you've kept that in. Need to have a look at it

This member an issue with his WAV caddy and came up with a solution for the locks which you could adapt for yours so the bumper has somewhere to mount to in the centre.

I'm sure I remember seeing another one with a bumper reinstalled but can't find it.

IIRC the bumper is fixed/hung onto the crash bar which you won't have anymore. If the ramp has been removed, maybe see if the chassis mounts are still there for the OE crash bar and then you could just reinstall one.

Sorry for the thread hijack.
Do you still have the centre part of the bumper?
I'm looking for a decent pair of inner closing panels if you have them and are willing to sell.

Thanks
Mike

An issue I can see is that its going to be tricky sealing the bottom of where the ramp used to sit as its lower than the bumper. If you look behind the little bits of bumper you can make out the chassis mounting points for the crash bar (silver bolts). You could, as I said earlier, remount the crash bar (can get them from ebay) and then bolt/hang the bumper back on, cutting it out to fit around the rubber seal on the ramp entrance but you'll need an additional piece to close off the aperture where the ramp would have been.

OE crash bar:

@AlwynMike
Hi mike, sorry I bought it like this. Van is ex- 'Motability'... you might get some luck with them as they handle loads of these conversions 👍

@dan@biali
That's really useful dan, thanks.

The current boot hatch as a fibreglass extension on it to seal that part so can hopefully utilise that to close off the aperture.

The seal isn't that good down there as it is- I suspect because the panel that houses the boot hatch is a bit mobile. So this'd improve that too 👍

@dan@biali

Dan: do you know if there's a difference between the caddy and caddy maxi rear protectors? Can see plenty online but none specific to the maxi.

Thanks again

@SurfCaddy
There's a Maxi bumper going on a Facebook Forum
Can't post a link.
Ian Phillips on the VW Caddy Van Forum

Don't know him - just noticed it in passing.

I've had a look on the parts diagrams and as far as I can tell, the rear crash bar is the same part number for both short and long wheelbase. Maybe someone else can confirm because I know the bumpers are different sizes or maybe call a VW parts dept and ask them to confirm the part number using your registration. If its 2K0 807 305 G then thats the number I've seen for both.

Brilliant, cheers both.

I've had a few replies from ebay sellers too, and part number: 2K0807305G is coming up for the maxi too
