Roof bars

Post by Neilg7777 »

Hi looking to add some roof bars to my 2006 sub caddy, the problem is I only have 2 holes per side and the bars have 3 fixing points per side. Has anybody overcome this problem. The bars are for show only, I have another set of logo bars if I want to carry anything
Thanks

Hi there i had pretty much the same question a few weeks ago.

DST automotive do them to fit the swb with two holes.
They actually come with three holes per rail but you only need to use the front two. They have blacking plugs to cover the rear most holes that dont get used.
Once you tighten the front two bolts it pulls the rear foot down to the roof so there are no gaps between the rubber foot and the roof. It looks like its bolted down even though it isn't.

The bars are not rated for very heavy loads but are pretty solid. Ive used mine to carry a few sheets of plasterboard no problems.
The only thing that could be better is the blanking plugs are made of a fairly brittle plastic. Would be better if they were made from rubber

I think thats the case(definitely with mine at least)
The ones i bought listed specifically that they used the factory mounting points with no additional drilling needed however i had found images showing three holes in each rail.
Just to be sure i called them up and they confirmed that they do have three mounting points but you only need to use two for the swb and the rear one can be blanked off.
I suspect that they are all the same but
probably worth checking if you're getting a different set to mine
They're quite helpful as i managed to knock a couple of the blank plugs out and lost them when i was carrying some stuff on the rails.
Called them up to buy a few replacements and they just sent me a small bag of them for free

Thanks for the advice, I bought the bars and fitted them yesterday. They look great and as you say solid with just the 2 front fastenings ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
