Badge change

Post by bainbo1973 »

Hi All,

Can anyone give any hints / tips on how to change the front and rear badges and residual sticky tape on a mk4 2015 Caddy?

Thanks

I had Alloygators on my T5 which were fixed with 3M tape. I managed to lose one which left tape all over the wheel. I tried everything inc acetone which ate into my powder coat but didn’t work that well, and after contacting Alloygator manufacturer it turns out the product they sent was just rebottled lighter fluid for the Zippo type Petrol lighters.
Give it a try.
There’s also a product called Trouble Shooter which is ironically made by 3M. Used it in a factory job for removing sticky residue. It was superb.

With my rear badge, I gently prised it off with a trim removal tool, and used isopropyl alcohol and a micro fibre cloth to remove the sticky stuff. The front badge I think just unclips but depending on your van, if it has Front Assist, the sensor is behind the badge, this may limit what you replace it with.

Fishing line and heat gun, great combination for removing any badge.
