Rear camera rns315

Post by Spireite »

What options have people gone for regarding a reverse camera?

I’ve an rns315 and it would be nice to have it work on that, however from reading online, it isn’t straight forward and quite expensive so I haven’t ruled out a read view mirror with camera / separate monitor possibly fitted in the top of dash in the little storage area.

Any pics would be great, eBay seems to have a few cheap options with monitors ect, however I’m unsure on the quality

I believe the RNS315 uses a 26 pin connection for the reverse camera.

You can use a VW camera in that with the appropriate loom, then tap into the wiring and code it in with vagcom. Not sure what cameras are an option though (I used a Tiguan one and modded loads of stuff to fit it in the door handle but believe there are cleaner options now).

Quick glance on google gets options like this

https://www.cars-equipment.com/en/shop/ ... y-2k-rear/

Next up you can get adapters that convert the VW specific connection to RCA video and run aftermarket cameras. Not sure what coding gets done for these but assume they will also need to be activated in vagcom.

The RNS 315 requires an RGB camera.
I fitted this, (its gone up in price a fair bit since)...

I used this kit
https://www.carsystems.eu/vw-caddy-2k0 ... 1159.html

It is basically a Passat camera with a loom and prepared handle
It straight forward to fit, obviously running the loom is the most difficult part and I had to make a hole in the door
The price has shot up though
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is

That looks decent but was hoping for less than £320
Where exactly are you drilling a hole in the door?

Behind the handle. I couldn’t get the loom to thread through the grommet for the number plate lights because the connector was too big. In hindsight I’d probably split the grommet but it’s been a while so the memory is a bit murky
Yeah £320 is eye watering, the kit tommyzoom linked to is probably a better bet now

I have a rear view mirror that has a forward camera and a rear one on a wire, it can display both at the same time or one or the other, it records in 1080p and runs from a cigar lighter or in my case a dc-dc converter running from the interior light when I get round to finishing it off.

My kenwood head unit came with the same rear camera but I prefer the mirror option as its a separate system to the stereo, my rear camera is in my wiper delete plug.

The exact one I got isn't on sale anymore but for less than the price of a normal camera there's these two but I can't vouch for the quality or function as I've only done a quick search but got to be worth a try.
