P0299 - Boost Pressure Regulation

Post by VWCade »

So, I keep getting this code and I’ve been diagnosing it for weeks on end now. Yes, I’ve taken it to a ‘vw specialist’ but they said the N75 Aka solenoid valve needs replacing. Which I have done with a genuine VW one. (Didn’t Work)

The list below is everything I’ve done so far. Can anyone please advise my on what I may have missed out on ? Or another suggestion? Cheers

Boost pipe, vacuum lines, main head leak tests x 2
Exhaust manifold swap
Check actuator holds pressure
Leak test from intercooler up to exhaust manifold
Turbo carbon clean (remove sticky veins)
Checked EGR Delete kit is on correctly
ECU Flashed
New MAP sensor
New N75
Check for air leaks from dpf (dpf deleted)

Do you have the results of an auto scan you could post up? One of the experts will be able to interpret it and advise more.

Year of van and engine size?

Is the actuator arm free, corroded or bent?
Have you added a boost gauge or dump valve?

Hi I will get the results soon as I can. I have got a boost gauge that’s correct. Its connect to the blanking plate that is on the intake manifold.
Engine size 1600
Year of Van 2011
Yes the actuator arm is fine and holding pressure

Is this intermittent or does it happen every time you try to boot it?

Happens at any point. I could start driving and the boost isn’t coming in at all. Or I can be doing 70 on the motorway in cruise control then limp mode will kick in

I would check boost pressure whilst driving the van, required vs actual using vcds measuring blocks

Intermittent faults like this will always be difficult to nail down.
If you are getting performance on minute and not the next it sounds to me like something other that the major mechanical parts. Mechanical parts don't tend to fail and put themselves right again whereas sensors ect can act up.

As suggested, try get a VCDS log of a clean pull, 4th gear from a low speed/RPM right through to 3000RPM or more.
Requested (specified) boost Vs actual boost will tell you a lot about what's going on.
Log pedal position and n75 duty cycle also to prove or disprove those are the fault.

Update:
The EGR Delete that was done had the vacuum pipe on the wrong nipple.
The top nipple on the EGR solenoid valve had no pipe on it which it should have done. The pipe was actually on the second nipple (not the first) The second nipples purpose is to draw in air from the EGR itself (I believe) and the top one feeds back into the turbo. Now the second nipple is blanked as dark side requested. Instant change on turbo pressure requested vs actual. It was now reading 1500kps instead of 1000kps at idle. Reversed out my drive and the engine cut out. It read “Internal control module P0606 - processor fault” meaning an ecu fault? I cleared codes and began driving. No problems after that and was boosting better than ever…. On comes today and I did a re test on VCDS on air pressure control. Results were “system not okay” hopes starting to drop again… Done a test drive with Requested boost VS Actual boost. At one point it read 2000 from requested and 1400 from actual boost.
My current thoughts are; has the turbo been over compensating meaning over boosting to get the boost it wants but couldn’t get? And in turn now the turbo is damaged? Or am I overthinking it? FYI my boost issue has been going on since August. Thanks for reading

Hi guys,
completely off-topic here but won't let me start a new thread as I'm new.

I have a 1.6tdi 2015 CAYM. It's been running rough and I put a new MAF sensor on and that seemed to make it run so much better for a week or so. now its running bad again. it's over-boosting (I'm going to check N75 and actuator tomorrow) but it also jolts and judders when moving and I'm only slightly pressing the throttle. I've done some logs and can't find much out of the ordinary apart from the over boost, however, I did notice that the accelerator pedal position sits at 14% when not pressed and only goes up to 69.8% when I fully depress it... has anyone else had this issue? i was told but a tuner friend of mine that it's probably nothing but to me it seems odd. could this be why the van is juddering as it's not sure exactly how much you're depressing the accelerator?
I have an Autel so I can do most logs diagnostics and functions/tests.

Any help would be greatly appreciated it's driving me mad that I can't find out what it is.
Replaced MAF sensor with genuine Continental one as the hella one I got made it worse.
TIA.
Dan
