18" inch steelies

Post by andrew_pringle »

Whilst I'm waiting to given access to the other areas of the forum I'll ask in here.

I'm currently running 18"alloys and keen to run steelies. Who is running 18" steelies and what do I need to consider when bolting them on?

Welcome to the forum Andrew. Not sure if you have done much research, the only company I came across that made 18inch steels in 5X112 was JBW. Personally I had nothing but trouble with them, they sent the wrong wheels and had imperfections on every one. I know others running them so perhaps they had a better experience. You will just need spigot rings with those wheels.
I ended up buying some 18inch VW Golf space savers and got them banded. Certainly not a cheap option but they look great. Bolt straight on without the need for spigot rings.

Think mine are about ET40ish. Would have loved to have gone lower offset, just not possible without modifying the axle

So on the face of 3 out of 4 wheels, I can only describe it as angle grinder marks... not sure how they got there but it as clear it was before they were painted. And the quality of the powder coat also left a lot to be desired. Image

Aww not greatly manufactured then I expect. I guess they are seen as steelies so probably not much care put into them nice heads up can banded steels take a fully laden van

Cheers for sharing a pic. I've found a few online. Guess i need to sift through the shit. What did it cost to band the space savers?

Might go that route as the costs I'm seeing for ready mades are already pricey

@bassman It’s not some thing I would feel comfortable with advising, due to the possibility of human error with the welds - however I have had no issues.

@andrew £747 inc vat I supplied the wheels. Went to Duchy Banded Steels, incredibly highly rated on the Transporter forums, is work and finish is unparalleled!

Cheers Guy, they're only a 30 min drive from me. Will tap up Combellacks for some spacesavers
