Replacing obscured rear glass with clear.....

Post by Scorcher »

....can it be done for a reasonable amount?

I specced obscured rear windows on my Caddy, expecting them to be metal, but nope, just black painted glass

I'd rather have transparent glass, with a black tint and metal grids so I can at least see something out of the rear when driving.

If it can be done, is it a DIY job or a trip to the dealer?

Try and get a price off a main dealer but also try some windscreen repair companys, they can replace more that windscreens and would most likely be doin it for the main dealer anyway.

On my van, Limo Black rear tints + metal grilles on windows + bulkhead grille = sod all visibility. Looking out the back is terrible for parking, the two lots of grilles completely distort my vision and I struggle to focus on whats behind and judge distances, and the tints made it worse. I use the wing mirrors only these days.

Oddly, Its actually better at night because at least you can see the headlamps on the cars behind!

I do have a reversing camera for parking, but fear missing out on a set flashing blue lights ;)

Am planning on changing the head unit for one that accepts a video input, and then see if I can manually switch to the aux input as well as when it's in reverse

Will report back!

Did you sort this, most vans I've seen are opaque and I want a caddy for camper so clear glass would be better for me. What was the deal????
