You just need a 5 pin relay to energise the 12v supply to the camera that will reduce or even get rid of the distortion on the camera. Also connect the negative of the camera direct to the chassis or to a good earth point dont use the earth of other components.

Pin confguration
86 earth negative
30 12v out to camera
87 perm 12v input

I've got a number plate camera I never got round to fitting on my pickup, I'm thinking of returning my pioneer x8500 for a x3500 double din, which also supports a reversing camera, will I need this relay too or will it be plug an play?
Also where is the cable routed from the rear all the way to the HU? Underneath? Or inside, then under bulkhead, then under center console to the HU?
Thanks.
Sorry to bring up an old post, iv just bought an alpine head unit and a cheap reversing camera off ebay
need some confirmation about this relay that's being talked about, someone on here said you need a 5 pin relay and listed where to wire 4 of the pins to, where does the 5th pin go to? or is it actually a 4 pin relay that's needed?
I used a 4 pin relay from Halfords, only a few quid and did appear to solve the problem for me. The camera now switches on with the reverse selected. I think there are some videos on you tube where they use a relay.
