@woody, @Craig Cheatham. I am thinking of getting the Retro Retrims armrest cover. How easy was it to fit? Does it fit over the exiting cover? Any advice would be really useful. I've got the ratchet type armrest if that makes any difference.
Many thanks.
Mark

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Today was a day for a dip... hydrodip!
Had a my first practice at hydro dipping today.
One on the left is carbon fibre film over gloss black, the one on the right is carbon fibre film over dacoma grey metallic.
The grey is really nice, however it doesn’t go with my Touran door cards, so black it is.
And what happens if you try and patch a bit that you’ve missed.... you pretty much have to go back to square one and get the wet n dry back out
And a little bit of unavoidable stretch in the deep bits, air brush will sort that out though!
Trialled laying down some lacquer, bit too heavy with the coats, made the film run a bit.
And after a bit of learning...
Should have all the door parts dipped and lacquered tomorrow and then I’ll have electric windows in my van
Now then, off to rake the house for things to dip

Re: What did you do to your van today?
@MFT Retro do a specific cover for the ratchet armrest, they ask when you order. Its very simple to fit. Can be glued or stapled. You need to remove your existing cloth cover before fitting your new Retro cover. I hope this helps!

Re: What did you do to your van today?
@Craig Cheatham - thanks for that. It seems a bit daunting to me, pulling apart a perfectly good cloth covered rest - just afraid of messing it up really. It does look so much better in vinyl, though.
Cheers.
Cheers.

@C chris
Great work mate!
I’ve been thinking about doing this but thought it would turn out awful if I did it myself. Did you get a kit or anything?

Okay so do e a few things now A pillars and ratchet armrest, arm rest was easy enough, first off have good high temp contact adhesive, once you remove the stem rest (taking out two front screws) with it removed cut off the old cover I pulled out the staples then stretched the cover over leaving the edges and apply the glue leave for 20mins and then join the two together, there is a post on here about recovering which gives details on how to get the spring in the right place for the ratchet assembly

Re: What did you do to your van today?
@woody67 Cheers for that, I'll look for the thread you mention and see what else is on Youtube. It's probably a case of once you've done it, you know how easy it is. I hope so anyway.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Cheers guys!
I bought the film (1mx5m) from eBay, get the film on a roll not folded, I bought folded and then rolled it onto a birthday wrapping tube. The folds need to be “blown” away when you put the film into the water to dissolve. Took me 3 attempts to figure that one out.
The activator was from Amazon
Total cost for the lot excluding the paint (I already had some) was under £24
A few hours on YouTube and some old parts to practice on and your sorted!
I’ll pop up some pictures once the parts have been lacquered, cut and polished
The patterns you can get are amazing and seemingly endless.
