Hi All, just joined the group and thinking of getting a 2016 Caddy. The plan being to make it into a mini camper/MTB van. I’ve seen a lot of posts here with suggestions and I’m thinking of the plan below. It allows me to have the camper part but also being able to use it to transport using the full cargo area when necessary. I’d love to hear your thoughts or feedback on it. Please excuse the dodge video!

If you had more fold out legs you wouldn’t need the support that folds down with the top, making it lighter and easier to fix and to move.

The reason i have the fold out bit is so that i can access the cargo area through the side door when the bed is stored away, I couldn't figure out how to have another fold out leg at that end as i wouldn't have anything to secure it to? Feel free to suggest a solution :)

Do you have a bulkhead?
The top could fold out but keep the legs on the lower bit. Less hinges so less flex

Think I've decided not to worry about being able to access the side door when the bed is up, there's a door on both sides so i can just get in the other side (So it would be one single piece, with the leg folding over).

I've added some storage and a flip down table as well.

I hope the actual build goes as smoothly!

Are you going ahead with this build? I'd be interested to see progress as I might look at doing something similar for occasional mtb rides ending at a pub (sleep in the van afterwards!)
