Dewiper - LB9A paint issues

Post by AshK3 »

Took the rear wiper off last week as my windows now have sign writing on and are blacked out so made sense to get rid of the wiper Incase I accidentally switch it on and it messes my decals up.

Got the dewiper or bung off eBay for £6.99 and it came painted gloss black but wanted to spray it white to blend in better, unfortunately after 3 coats of white primer, 2 base coats and 3 lacquer the white is more creamy than the white of my van.

I hear this may be a common issue with VW Candy white? Anyone else had that issue?

Since LB9A been a VW color for many years now there's quite a few variants of the color. To explain it easy, the very first color of LB9A from the 1870-something ( :?: )is called Standard recipe. Over the years the mixes at VW differ from that Standard recipe (for many different reasons). Then they are called after what shade they differ from that original Standard recipe. So there is a lighter one, a darker one, a greener one and a yellower one by now. And far more. So depending on what variant you got on your car you can expect the spray can you got from VW may not correspont coreclty to your variant of paint on your car.

Did that make any sense?

On the photo you posted, I can also se that the left door is more yellow on the left side than the right side and the right door is lighter/whiter than the left side of the left door. Is your van resprayed at some point or is it just the photo and lighting that makes this deviation in color?

It could also be that you have put on too much clear coat. Clear coat is often a little yellowish and if you put on too much the color tend to reach for a more yellowish tone.

Amazing info thanks, I don’t believe the rear door has been sprayed, at least in my time.

The laqure makes sense too, as a Valeter I wanted a really high gloss shine, and I was practicing for my bumpers, so I may have been a bit heavy handed on that.

In some lights the colour looks right then in others it’s a shade or two out.

Have the same problem with the paint i bought.
l have B9A same as LB9A, got more blue in it so the spot that is painted looks more blue then white. just talked to a paint company and they can shoot with a laser and get the right color and mix.

will uppdate on how that goes.
