Front Cover PerformanceVW June 2011 Caddy.

Post by HeavenlyDetail »

inally got round to writing the Video and some photos of the Red Caddy Showvan.
The initial detail took place just before Ultimate Dubs where the Caddy took an award but sadly the Caddy was wiped down after a long journey with quick detailer and a cloth and damaged the bonnet and wings badly. I was up at 4am enroute to the shoew after getting a call to say what had happened but by hand i couldnt rectify it so i asked for it back to redo the caddy again and some knowledge was passed over on how to keep the paintwork in pristine condition or as near as possible.

The Caddy was originally done in Kore Dark which looked superb and wet but we decided to have some fun and mix it up a little so decided on a product that isnt out of everyones price range and went for a sealent.

The Caddy has been sponsored by Shinearama in Altrincham in Manchester so all products can be directly purchased from them or ChemicalGuysuk for the ChemGuys products. Shinearama has a walk in policy which is cool.
This was great fun as Shinearama had the spec of the Caddy and supplied the owner with the kit to do the caddy with so i just had a bundle of products from all manufacturers to work with , i think the results are great.

The Video which shows before and after paintwork in video form HiDef and also walkround in full sunlight on location of the GAC Photoshoot an up and coming international company specialising in bespoke photoshoots for magazines and international media.

Hi Martin.
Silver is a great colour to work with and works well with sealents to give a glassy look , wetness doesnt work quite aswell i dont feel but it depends what you want from your particular paintwork. The latest breed of product is the sets of liquids comin out of Korea at the moment of which c5 is one of them , incidently c5 can be used on paintwork in the form of c1 liquid crystal technology but is pro application only , not that i dont think people cant apply it , its just if you get it wrong it needs compounding off as its a high solvent based product and flash cures within a couple of minutes , this is all by gtechniq.
I also have a series of samples from korea non branded im testing and also C-Quartz which Avi the distributor has sent me direct from factory and is of the same vein as C1 but with a longer cure time.
This is my own van at the moment until my new Caddy turns up.
This has been machined obviously and then coated in C2 which is a more user friendly version of c1 but with no scratch resistency although from my initial tests C-Quartz performs better than C1 and this has been verified by a close friend who is also a very professional detailer infact one of the best.

the trim was grey an faded aswell so this has Gtechniq C4 Trim restorer on aswell which is also a Crystal Technology product the same as c1 and c5

Image

You can see c1 and c4 on one of my shelves on the left hand side , very small bottles with 50ml in each.

Image

C5 is here...slightly larger bottle but you can use it on your trim once your wheels are done , it makes them black and they wont fade as it coats them in a crystal layer.

This is c1 which shows what it turns to once its cured

Interesting write up, how do you find the 3m pads on a DA? theres a lot on Dw about them not being the best for a da machine. I use them and the hexlogic pads and have no issues. going to get the gtechniq stuff for my caddy as soon as i can get my order in with them. also interested in cquartz but they are hard to get a hold off lol.

Hi Keith...
Keith i use many pads Hex aswell and dont have an issue with 3m pads BUT i mainly use them for glazing etc not correction on the DA so this may be why , on the Rotary i love 3m pads.
Yes i will probably go along them lines aswell on my Caddy and i have the Full Gtechniq range and Avi has just sent me a cquartz Kit from Korea (although it originates in Japan) and will go with this over C1 due to high solvent contents in C1 well isopropanol i believe and huge amounts of it , i dont like the quick curing time and regardless of what everyones posts about scratch resistancy etc it isnt as good as C-Quartz.
