Caddy Maxi Cladding

Post by Slaz »

Converting my caddy maxi into a camper at the moment and after some inspiration and advice on cladding the walls... What to scre into and what not to screw into!

Mine was boarded out and I took that off. Insulated it then refitted the board with 4d carpet. Nice and warm and you can get invisible clips aswell

Hi, you can screw into the walls where it's double skinned, obviously. I would suggest screwing batons to the van and then cladding onto them, that way you will put less holes in your bodywork. I did this with my ceiling; I screwed batons onto the framework that runs across the ceiling. You just need to make sure your drill bit only goes so deep and your screws are short, as there's not much margin of error!

If I had a fresh van with no holes I would glue panels on, unfortunatley every van I've had has been used and come ply lined already, presumably by monkeys as they've all been disgraceful. My 16 plate even has screws banged through the original cards so even after removing it the oem covers are f*kd underneath

I just screwed ply on to the parts where it was double skinned. I've not had a problem with it at all.

I looked at using batons but you lose some of your valuable space if you do, so there's really no point

OP wants to clad it though, so that would be a lot of screws. The less holes I have to drill into my van, the better!
