Nice one mate……I know you’ve been looking for one for a while. That would keep me busy/confused for the rest of my life!
Can’t wait to see it in and running

Cheers guys! It’s going to take a wee while, need to pick a few brains on here for a bit first…

The last engine swap I did was back in 1979, 1100cc to 1600cc engine in my old escort, a lot easier back then

Should arrive in the next 5-10 days and I’ll get a good look at it.

Houston, the eagle has landed….

Donor car arrived this afternoon Image

Engine is smoooooth, so smooth and quiet my mate jumped out of his skin when I revved it ImageImage

I’d forgotten just how nice the V6 sounds when you blip the throttle, think I’m in love again.

Next few weeks going to be busy researching before the reaper van gets its transplant.

And waiting on some new parts arriving mid October, everything seems to be on back orderImage

It’s like being a wean on Christmas Eve ImageImageImage

Wow. What an awesome build. Great job.
I have been a caddy owner for three years but only recently discovered this forum. You have given me so many ideas. :D

Not updated my build thread in a while…

49 days later… the final parts of the jigsaw have arrived!

49 day lead time for 2 teeny weeny fuel lines. VW commercial, Edinburgh came up with the goods in only 5 working days, well ahead of TPS, LLLparts, OEMshop and a seller in the US of A Image

Image

Books of knowledge and spreadsheets almost ready for use, just a couple of electrical queries to sort over the next few days

Image

The “fun” starts on 29 November once I get use of my right hand back, can’t wait!

Pulled them together myself, I’m kinda old fashioned when it comes to information, I like paper and pencil, hence why I’ve pulled a couple of books together to help me understand what needs to go where and what needs to be removed.

I find it so much easier to work through paper copies of VAG’s ladder diagrams, make notes, amend and mark off changes than scroll down a screen.

Spent a few hours on Erwin.de downloading the wiring schematics for the engine, steering, etc as well as the mechanical diagrams and service stuff. I’ve also spent a fair bit of time chatting to some of the very knowledgeable folks on here to help when I’ve came across something I wasn’t sure about. This is a brilliant forum for that, always good advice! And I’ll still be seeking advice as the swap happens!

I think I’ve mapped every wire from both ECU’s to each destination and highlighted the wires/components to remove, to retain, to repin/reroute as well as the engine compartment fuse and control panel.

I’ll most likely have missed something, however documenting as I go should help fault finding further down the line if it doesn’t work!

I thought initially that there would be a how too guide on this, however as a few folks have pointed out and as I’ve come to realise I needed to spend time to understand what I’m trying to achieve and to get a really good understanding of how all the separate components interact with each other to make it all work and to fault find in the future as things fail over time.

Fair play putting all that information together for yourself. It still amazes me how some guys won't invest £7 in a erWIN login to get exact diagrams for this type of job.
I've never looked at VR6 wiring but I have a feeling I will one day, I'm getting tempted by the big boost VR6s more and more often.
