Great achievements to get a van into the list. An amazing van and great attention to detail.

@the long one

The apr intake was for the 2.0 tdi. I don’t think it’s vehicle specific.

Checked APR site it seems that now NLA - nothing unusual there then - I wonder if the petrol intake fit ?

APR CI100022 has now NLA so replacement is supposed to be CI100035 but will check with the company

Absolutely stunning, is it worth spending the extra for an Edition 30 engine over a normal GTI engine?

It would cost a fair bit to upgrade a GTi engine to the same spec so it all depends on what your aim is. I knew I wanted to get over 300bhp and the ED30 was the better way to do that and hopefully be more reliable as not stressing it too far.

I can't remember the exact differences but the turbos are different (KO4 on the ED30) and you're then starting with more power - 230bhp vs 200bhp in GTi - and so its less expensive getting even more. Mine was mapped when it was in the Golf and made 270bhp if my memory is correct but some tuners will tell you they can get nearly 300 just with a map.

Found this on another forum:

Larger Turbo from S3 (K04) rather then the K03 on the GTI
87C thermostat instead of 80C
Larger capacity fuel injectors (13% higher flow)
Larger intercooler (smaller then the S3)
Engine block main bearing caps, pedestals are reinforced
Conrods have larger rod bolts and new bearings
Pistons have 21mm gudgeon pins instead of 19mm
Piston top ring is improved
Recirculation Valve (blow off valve) not located on turbo
The Audi S3 and the Edition 30/Pirelli/Seat Leon Cupra R share the same short block, same turbo and similar intercooler.

From my understanding of that its a stronger platform to tune and the KO3 on the GTi will limit how much more power you can get - I believe 300bhp is the ceiling.

Thanks for the info! Makes sense to get a better base then haha, off topic but do you have any info or advice where to get a damaged GTI/ED30? Seems like having a rear end write off would be best for engine swapping as a long term project

I spent ages trying to find one on eBay and salvage auction sites but could find anything I felt comfortable buying. Ended up buying a complete car so I had the looms and modules (although that’s not necessary) and so I could drive it to make sure the engine and gearbox were ok.

There are often engines on those sorts of sites and if you’re getting someone like doc to do the install (highly recommended as he’s done a few now and the quality of work is outstanding) they can advise as to what you might need in addition.

Solid advice, thank you. Thought that might be the best approach - i was just trying to be cheap
