Have you kept the battery isolator switch..?
If so you may have to trim the right side to allow the wire to the isolator switch as it was tight with 096 battery being longer but if you have the standard it should be fine.

My battery box was delivered today so I thought it would be an idea to paint it before I fitted it

Yes indeed, turned out nice, but I think it will look better with some contrast, like the engine cover. You should do the center black and/or the + and the - from the small battery icon to remain blue or red like the letters from the TDI.
