Got the van booked in at VW Manchester - since picking it up (even when I looked at it before buying) it had a belt squeak which I put down to maybe it's just been say on forecourt in Yorkshire in the cold damp weather and it would disappear, but it hasn't so into VW it goes!

Also got a quote on a remap!

"Hi Stuart,
Because this is the lower spec model with the exact same engine as the 150bhp we have 2 options.

We can either put you on a stage 1, which is equivalent to the mechanically identical 150bhp model.
Or we can take you from:
102bhp and 184lbft
To:
191bhp and 327lbft
With our stage 2 software.

This is built for all standard parts within manufacturer tolerances.

This will be an OBD Tune at £249"

Tempting

Just beware that although the engines might be "mechanically identical", the chassis may not be and you may have smaller brakes and front hubs.

Yeah I looked into that as well as I know it's a bit more than just a de-tuned engine but not massive differences in the rest of the vehicle. Remap won't be for a while yet but good to get some estimated figures

Well that's the van gone off to VW - got a belt squeak which was there when I picked it up but assumed it would go away (though standing on a forecourt it might of just been damp) - I'm assuming it's an idler going dry, and also a very strange rattle/knocking noise to be looked into

Luckily it's under warranty

Got a call from VW.... Turns out the belt squeak was the cam belt tensioner! Good job I got it in!

The knocking noise they think is the brake caliper as it's got aftermarket pads in rather than OEM pads so just waiting to hear back on that

Belt squeak was constant but was more prominent at a certain rotation

The weird knocking noise turned out to be brake caliper had a pin loose or something so they've basically rebuilt it

On my way now to pick it up :)

Got a bit more info back on the brakes - it was the spring which wasn't doing its job meaning the pads were rattling

Glad it's back now though

Hi mate,

Sorry to bombard with questions-

So did you use that Dodo on the sides / arches / floor + roof?

Then did you put like a felt over?

Then carpet over that?

First time for me so want to be sure,
Where did you buy all this from?

I used dodomat sound deadening on the inner of the outer skin, roof, floor and arches. I then used 6mm super liner insulation on pretty much every internal metal work. I then carpeted over that.

Sound deadening and super liner I bought from sound deadening shop. Carpet I got from mega van mats

Should of taken more photos, but....it's now sound deadened, insulated, and the old cream textured carpet type stuff has now been recarpeted in black

In 2 minds of to spray the rest of the plastic cream bits black?Image

Looks a cracking job, I think it’ll look better black against the black of the fabric
