It never stops mate! Just remember to make a diagram of the wiring before you start disconnecting.

Re: Swan’s caddy build
Today I’ve started a job I’ve been wanting to do for a while......paint my brake calipers.
I ordered the foliatec kit and set to work.
I reasoned I’d be able to prep better if I removed the calipers, so front offside off, and on the bench for cleaning.
With a mix of brake cleaner, lots of wire brushing and a little run over with 240 grit wet and dry. I got it in the sun to paint it.
This was after the first coat. I gave it 3 coats and according to the paint kit instructions, it could be remounted after 2 hours. I found the paint still a bit too tacky so I left it another hour and re fitted it. I’ll get the clip back in tomorrow when it should be properly dry.
I got the other caliper painted too, that’s going back on tomorrow then I’ll start the rears. After that I’ll do a system flush with new fluid.
I’m happy with the results so far

Nice work fella.....doing anything with brakes scares me....!
I think it harks back to various beetles I've had that only stopped via gears and handbrake

Re: Swan’s caddy build
I’ve never done brakes on a car before mate. So I’m hoping it stops after it’s all back together and flushed

Nice work swan fiend...
@Stedlocks I didn’t experience the air cooled scene back in the day - first VW for me was the Caddy although we have a Tiguan R-Line Tech 230tsi now too - awesome car.
The late 80s for me, for some reason at age 20 I sold a Ford Escort RS2000 mk2 and bought a Lotus Éclat. That also had brakes which required a couple of days notice in writing due to their inexplicable reason for fitting inboard rear drums - they always got contaminated by oil leaking from one or both 50p seals on the diff. A problem because the car was actually quite rapid but thankfully it always overheated when I actually took it out due to the postage stamp sized radiator on the 907 engine before I got too far.

Re: Swan’s caddy build
When I was a mechanic, I worked in a Lotus garage, definitely spent more time in the garage than on the road. The brakes were definitely an after thought. Also used to restore air cooleds and had a bay of my own, good days!
