Re: Swan’s caddy build
Having managed to find some spare time. I did @Doc’s licence plate illumination mod today. I was sick of having the eBay special LED units flickering or going off.
So after some advice from Doc and a few calls to some breakers yards, I got these:
I removed the black housing on the barn door, and went about cutting it to make the lights fit snugly. After a while, it was looking like this
Then this
Note how one of the lights is upside down, I decided it would fit better in the housing this way, and it doesn’t make any difference to the illumination.
Once fitted, I spliced in the connectors to the loom and positioned everything as it should be.
I wired as follows: Red from the main loom to yellow on the connector, and blue on the main to brown.
For the other side it was red on the main to grey on the connector, and blue on the main to brown on the connector.
I’m pleased with the result. Thanks @Doc for help and putting the idea out there.

Re: Swan’s caddy build
Hi swan. Hope you are well.
Which BMW did yiu get the lights from or can it be any?
Also have you got a picture of how you wired it for reference? Or can I find it on docs thread?
I have one light out on mine and I think its due to a corroded connector tired of them not working.
Thanks

Re: Swan’s caddy build
Cheers Sean. I expect to see a set on yours soon
@ Pepsi, cheers mate, I’m ok thanks. The lights I used were from a 2015 1 series, but they go in other models too including the mini clubman.
Part number 63 26 7193294. I asked the breaker for the connectors and a few inches of wiring too.
I didn’t take any photos of the wiring sorry, but it’s straightforward......I wired one light red to yellow and blue to brown. The other was red to grey and blue to brown.

These look real nice swan fiend. I took the ebay ones out, sick of them burning out.

Re: Swan’s caddy build
Hey there. Nice work on the lights. Do you get an error with these? I got some units from Travelinlite. They don't flicker and are super bright but I'm getting that annoying error and they get insanely hot.
