Cheers C Chis, it’ll keep you busy for an hour or two anyway

@Ranger D I have a bulb error light anyway mate as I have LED DRL and tail light bulbs.
I’m pretty certain that they would throw a light up on their own though.

When Doc had my van on his VCDS, he did mention that only certain bulb errors can be coded out on my 2011 can. I think on 2013 and newer vans this is different.
I can’t remember which ones he said couldn’t be coded out though.

Ah, bummer. I find that so annoying. I have LED DRLs too, but they are (pretty much!) error free. Sometimes they bring up an error light, but if you turn sidelights or headlights on for a few seconds, then turn them off again, the error light goes away. This is now cancelled out by my plate lights! Someone did try to code the error out for me but it seemed to keep recurring so he couldn't do it! The plate lights I have on are so obright though, that they actually help you see when you are reversing!!

Yeah the light on the dash does my head in. But I can live with it
Why are the travelin lite ones getting so hot? I take it there’s no resistors in them?

I think the resistors are actually what get really hot. If you buy separate resistors, as you can for DRLs, they need to be mounted somewhere that won't melt for this reason.

I've cracked removing cold and warm lamp diagnostics for all but low beam, high beam and fog lights.
The only one VCDS will do is the license plate lights warm diagnostics, which for the BMW lights is fine. I've been running them for over six months without a fault code and just VCDS coding for the LEDs.

That’s good news Doc, so you should be able to get my error light out when I next see you then? I’ve also got lights in the door cards that need coding in too.

What is cold and warm diagnostics mate?
I’ve never heard of that before.

Cold diagnostics is the lamp check when you turn the ignition on initially, the CECM/BCM tries each lamp.
Warm diagnostics is when the lamp current consumption is monitored while it is lit.

Nice one Doc. I'd be calling on your services for this sort of thing if I didn't live so far away! Maybe it is only the warm diagnostic that brings up the fault on my plate lights, it only shows up after a couple of minutes...
