I have decided to make a start on the build in the back, the aim being able to travel around Europe next year on a budget for 3 weeks. Somewhere to store our stuff, sleep st night and somewhere to sit to eat etc.

I decided on a rough layout, I knew I wanted a bed and somewhere to sit, therefore I wanted some sort of pull out bed system, but retaining enough storage underneath.

Starting off with my shape, using just stud work timber and putting a mitre on each joint

Using the off cuts in each corner to give it a little extra strength.

Finally duplicating the setup so I can have an upper and a lower part.

Due to spend some more time on it at the weekend, updates to follow

@Gary.8 I am planning on boxing off the front section, then having bed slats at the back, with a pull out section for the full width bed.

Here's a idea that I did with mine that might help to make full use of the back section..
pull out bed section that doubles up as ajustable back rest with storage draw that doubles up as a table.ImageImageImage

Very clever bedding system, looking forward to seeing it fitted. Going back a bit further in the thread, love the interior lighting. Think I might have to order some LED strip lights.

@Gary.8 thanks for the ideas!! I do like the way you have the bed system there, especially how it's so versatile! How do you get the back rest to work like that??

There's two wooden runners underneath the slats where the draw goes to stop the slat section dropping down...
If you do a box frame there is plenty of other ways you can do the storage that works for you, like the second section I did as a chest Image.ImageImageImage

Going backto the lighting again

This got mounted inside a section of aluminium U channel fixed to the van with some translucent tubing pressed into the channel just to break up the light a little.
Where did you get the translucent tubing from mate - it looks great , is it just a press fit or is it stuck in?

@resra22
Tubing was from homebase or somewhere like that, so was the aluminium 'U' channel, I took tried different size tube until one fitted in well. Just tight push fit

Nice build @CaddyTeam1, how do you find the noise when driving without a bulkhead + insulated rear? I would love a bit more legroom but I don't want to lose too much cab refinement.
