Only thing you'll need to be careful with is nose weight as a lot are nose heavy.
I’ll keep that in mind when building the A frame or draw bar. I’ll keep the front as light as possible and depending how difficult the 1.6tdi finds towing it I might even add a little weight to the back. So much space now the fuel tank is gone!

Had a bit of a nightmare in London this week. I hit a huge pothole on Monday morning and I’ve managed to put a decent buckle in both of the N/S wheels. Found out when I drove the van home yesterday morning and went over 40mph.

The 20’s are toast. So, I’ve found some 9j 19” speed lines with the 1” lip and I should be picking them up this afternoon.

They are supposed to have 255/35/19 tyres but I’ve just ordered 225/35/19’s for them. Should look as good, needed 2 front tyres anyway and I can use the 2x good wheels and tyres on the trailer project.

Got some new tyres mounted into the 19’s and fitted the wheels. Here are a few pictures with fitment. I also rolled my arches, paint is ruined but I need to tidy some paint on the van so I’m not too bothered.

This one is a 19” on the back and a 20” on the front. Still getting used to how small they look!

Image

One from work yesterday, little bit of poke on the rear.

Image

Another from work, thought it was cool. 4x Class 710’s. The one on the left of the fence isn’t sold yet. It was out for 8 car, 2x 4 car units for coupled testing.

On Friday I am going up to the units to chop the SWB caddy in half and fit the 18z’s!

Spent another few hours at my units yesterday. Here is the result.

We over it the front so I can figure out where I want to fix a bulkhead. Now I’ve got the task of making the drawbar.

Managed to get a few bits done this weekend. Started by test fitting the 18z’s.
Image
Turns out I need disc cantering rings so they’ve been ordered.
Today I managed to fit the life mirrors. Ignore the caps, they’re travelinlite ones and don’t fit so I’m going to order genuine.
Image
Also fitted the sweeping indicators. Had to chop the wing up.
Image
And finally I fitted one sliding door panel and removed the psi stickers.
Image
Did the floor in foil insulation.
Image

I’ve been speaking with gtikris again and all going well I’ll be picking up a mk7.5 gti front bumper next Friday then she’ll be in for colour coding the week after.

Today I took a trip to TPS and ordered a barn door release handle and associated and some genuine mirror caps. I also ordered some oil and a filter because I’ve done 6k since November.

Anyway, today I did a little more. Long story short I’ve routed almost all of the wiring from the load area into the cabin and done the other sliding door and some more insulation.

Got wiring sorted for 2x accessories, usb charger, lighting, speakers, tow bar (just a wire for N/S indicator along over the roof) and 12v ignition switched feed for the tow bar wiring harness thing for can cars.
Image
Remover the rear barn door panel in preparation for the reverse camera wiring and release handle. I’ll also foil bubble wrap this time as I didn’t last time.
Image
Image
Finally I’ve marked up where I want the speakers to go.

Another little bit done today before work.

Routing the rear camera wires through the door loom wasn’t fun.

The rear handle needs a little work, the trim doesn’t stay on so I’ve got to make the cutout a little linger when the panel is off to fit the camera.

Thanks guys! I am tempted to put the rear to the lowest setting but that’ll mean no weight in the back. We’ll see.

A little more done today.

Image
Blue GTE tartan gear gaitor. I’ve also ordered 2 cushions in the same fabric for when the back is completed.

I actually made a start carpeting the van itself. I was worried I’d mess it up but it’s actually very forgiving. Should look half decent when the roof is in! I should only have 2 join, in the top of the rear bodywork where it’s cut in the 2nd picture.

I’ve persuaded myself that I need a leisure battery tonight so, I’ve ordered a split charge kit and a 100Ah battery. Nothing major but it’ll do what I want (lights for a trip to worthersee this year). I ordered the supporting fuse board and battery cut off so I can safeguard my main battery.

Picked this up last week.
Image
Mk7.5 gti front bumper from gtikris.

I should have some goodies waiting for me when I get home....
- Detachable towbar
- Mk4 rear bumper
- Genuine mirror caps
- Leisure battery setup inc all the goodies, associated parts and hardware.
- Ratchet arm rest
- new 2 switch Touran door grab (old one ok but has a few marks)

I’ve also decided to wrap the van myself. Might not be a good idea but we’ll see! Roll on Worthersee!

Oh and the van is booked in on Tuesday for cruise control, trip via the Mk6 mfsw and a Bentley style key. I’ll also get the rear lights coded at the same time so the rear looks just like a mk4.

I did order wrap but I’m sending it back, don’t have the time to do it. Going to just get it painted and use my A6 for a week.
