RLS installed, coded and working, waiting on the cover arriving to tidy it up to complete the install.

A pillar off and on, only broke one clip!

List is still getting shorter, time to add to methinks!

9. Dukes of Hazard air horns (so ‘70’s)
23. Replacement colour coded rear bumper
24. Diesel filter cover
28. TV/DVD/multimedia unit for the back
35. Interior unlocking button for the side door
38. Engine/gearbox upgrade, power, more power... very, very long term

Let the build begin

Post by C Chis » Thu Oct 22, 2020 8:35 pm

Today I removed my OEM towbar and electrics

Image

Image

Fitted my refurbished crash bar

Image

Eased and greased my spare wheel carrier bolts, something you should do a couple of times a year to prevent them seizing up. Refurb of the carrier planned for next week when it’s back up on the ramp. I cleaned up the back end and did some rust treatment too.

Image
Image

Oh, and greased the crash bar mounting bolts, better to make it easier for the next person to remove!

Image

And then test fitted my R32 bumper ahead of colour coding early next month
Image

Many thanks to hef355 for his guidance and words of wisdom which resulted in the bumper skin fitting right first time!

Tomorrow’s tasks, weather permitting are to

1. Adjust the spacing round the exhaust tail pipes to get the gap just right and even.

2. Filling in the gap pictured below in the wheel arch.

3. A wee trip to the scrapyard for some more upgrades and a good rummage

These brackets had to be removed to bond the old bumper brackets into the same position on the new skin

Image

And will be cut and bonded in to fill this gap between the bonded on bracket and the bumper skin. The new bumper is a different profile and much deeper than the old mk3 one I removed

42. TPMS
43. Towbar removal, replacement crash bar, linked to the R32 bumper - complete

Finished the exhaust cutouts and then shaped and bonded in the R32 bumper filler pieces today, once cured, then off to paint, woohoo!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Armrest trim arrived from Retro Retrims yesterday, salvaged a working ratchet arm rest from a Touran, removed the old fabric cover and popped on a rather nice looking vinyl one!

Image

Image

The only tricky bit is putting it back together, however, if you carefully unclip the base cover you can squeeze the prong thingy’s together from underneath and the padded part almost puts itself back together...

Image

Upcoming mods still to do...

23. Replacement colour coded rear bumper - R32 one, test fitted, almost ready for painting
28. TV/DVD/multimedia unit for the back
35. Interior unlocking button for the side door

39. Colour matching the water container covers (black)
40. Heated/adjustable/folding Life mirrors
41. Low washer fluid level detection
42. TPMS
44.

Parts waiting to install

Audi door handle lights
Washer fluid low level switch
Folding mirrors and switch
Climatronic upgrade from climatic
Black fluid reservoir covers

Great job on the bumper! And the arm rest. So glad I found one in leather that matched the seat so didn’t have to swap the cover :D

Papa Bear cheers! The only leather one I found was a nice shade of beige... funny enough it was the only Touran in the yard that hadn’t been touched
