Let the build begin
Finished hydro dipping the steering column, the instrument panel cover and the centre panel, gloss lacquer applied and fitted along with a replacement control panel, with A/C button (tried pressing the button to see if the A/C worked, it didn’t )
Footwell lights also installed and working, pictures to follow once I’ve swapped the bulbs for red LED’s and it’s dark.
So, how’s my never ending list of mods coming along...
2. Headlight tweaks - complete
3. Remap - post lockdown
6. Trial fitting of a VW flip emblem reversing camera into a spare barn door(long term project!) - binned unless I swap the barn doors for a tailgate.
7. Retro retrims for the A pillars - now changed to hydro dipping
9. Dukes of Hazard air horns (so ‘70’s)
10. Electric window upgrade - complete
14. Centre console
15. Touran dash
16. Touran instrument cluster
17. Touran front bumper - complete
18. Dye the cab headlining
19. Lowering kit
21. Passat interior light
22. New exhaust minus the back box though
23. Replacement colour coded rear bumper
24. Diesel filter cover
25. Footwell lights - complete
N+1. Buy a newer Caddy and start again
And yet again, 4 more mods added to my list since the last update

Thank you for your help re ptc heater, I have it with all the wiring.
Re your list, vow emblem with camera only if you change to tailgate, why then?

Papa Bear that’s awesome! Just make sure you tighten the wires up correctly as there will be up to 80 Amps flowing through those wires!
I trialled the camera in the RHS door, the image was just a little to off centre for my liking, might be different with a different camera, however there is a very limited choice out there in the V shape type.
I think I’m going to trial a bumper/tow bar mounted one next, once I get my new bumper
Enjoy the instant heat once you’ve got your PTC heater installed, it’s brilliant!

Re: Let the build begin
So you don’t mean the camera that flips up to reveal the camera?
What number camera will that be?

Let the build begin
Ah, apologies, There were several options running around in my head.
One option was to fit the V shaped camera into the badge, however, too off centre so I’ve binned that idea.
Next plan was to fit the flip up emblem to an old door, get a bracket 3D printed for the back, get it looking factory and then swap it out for a camera version, however with the offset view I’m going to put it on hold and price up a tailgate and fit it, then go for the flip up camera or one direct onto the bumper.
The cost was looking high by the time I got a barn door, bought a mig welder, flushed the emblem recess, installed the flip up emblem and then tried a camera!
Oh, and I’m on my 5th camera, I think!

@C chris
Sweet, cheers man!
The hydro dipped dash trim looks awesome, do you have a proper set up to do this or is it a DIY job?

Could you please tell me where you got the clip for the sun visor? The van I'm buying also has a broken clip

Let the build begin
Mouse cheers bud!
Totally DIY setup consisting of...
Big clear poly tub from The Range (cheap as chips)
Old fashioned mercury in glass thermometer (aiming for 28 degC water temp)
Hydro dipping film - they all need different water temps and activator
Activator (rattle can)
Masking tape
Clear coat (rattle can)
Repurposed, bent bike spokes for hanging the parts
Speed shapes - vital in helping get the soak time and activator right and practicing dipping before actually dipping your parts, reusable over and over.
Note book for recording settings for each type of film
Gloves to stop your hands being hydro dipped
It’s been great fun and a bit frustrating at times

Re: Let the build begin
I would just like to point out that is not on your list of mods! Why do it? Just to point and jeer at the fact mine failed due to poor quality tinting film? Can go off some people you know?

Re: Let the build begin
Papa Bear sorry buddy!
I’d forgotten I’d ordered the film, it’s taken 3 weeks to come from “Leicester” via Hong Kong it would seem....
I was thinking about you when I went to start applying it, thinking this isn’t going to end well, however, it went really well! Sorry again
When are you installing your PTC heater?

I’m totally broken at the moment after removing it, can hardly walk, so giving it a week or so to recover first
