I installed the rear door handle, very easy to do. All the parts came from the dealer, cheaper than the kits on eBay, same parts, eBay guys just put a huge mark-up on the parts. There is a how 2 in the technical section along with all the part numbers. If you have a local TPS they will do the genuine parts cheaper than the dealers.

The spoiler was a cheapy from eBay, needed a lot of work to make it fit, turned out okay(ish) in the end.

Let the build begin

Post by C Chis »

Today was a good day...

Modified my Touran centre console with the drinks holder and cover from a Golf

Cut the consoles with a Dremel and plastic welded in the Golf one

Image

Heated and reshaped the plastic underneath to hold the cup holder nice and snug

Image

After many fabric samples and weeks of waiting as they arrived and I went, nope Image I popped along to my local fabric shop and found some really nice black vinyl “leatherette”, cheap as chips and on the shelf, so bought a meter of it.

Part way through bonding the vinyl on

Image

A little bit of heat from the old hairdryer...

Image

Leave it to cure for a day(ish)

And then out with the old interior

Image

Image

A bit of a Hoover and clean, some dodo mat inside and the Touran carpets cleaned up

Image

Image

And a few hours later...

Image

Image

Image

Really happy with how it’s all turned out!

Even reinstated the diffused red LED’s in the new centre console!

RLS will have to wait until tmr...

And the list continues and is getting shorter...

9. Dukes of Hazard air horns (so ‘70’s)
16. Touran/Tiguan instrument cluster - change of plan ImageImage
19. Lowering kit - all here along with new top mounts, wishbones and ball joints, waiting on workshop space to fit
23. Replacement colour coded rear bumper
24. Diesel filter cover
28. TV/DVD/multimedia unit for the back
30. Barn door to tailgate conversion and flip camera (long term)
35. Interior unlocking button for the side door
37. RLS
38. Engine/gearbox upgrade, power, more power... very, very long term

I found a touran one, same colour leather as my new seats (or very close) £15 with rear cup holder and vent.

Just bought a black one from retro retrims

Tourans are rare up this way, mostly ones without the arm rest or a lovely yellow/beige colour

Was really lucky, found them in the back seat of a touran in scrappy. Someone must have needed the centre console to replace a damaged one and didn’t want the bits that went with it. Another win for me. Was onl6 looking for part of the cup holder :D

Time to quieten down the van again...

Out with the old

Image

New one ready to fit...
Old one ready for market place

Image

And done! Just touching the bumper, going to leave it for now, thinking on swapping out the old bumper soon Image

Image

And it’s sooooo quiet!

How did you find cutting out the centre console? I'd like to change the cupholder to one with a cover but I've never plastic welded before

J_Con hi buddy, wasn’t too bad, followed the pictures in lister79’s post and once cut and clamped together I used an old soldering iron for the welding along with cut off strips of the console for the welding rods, took a bit of time, but worked really well!

Like metal welding you need to get the plastic molten or the “welded on” bit won’t stick, discovered that whilst practicing

I practiced on the old cut up console first to get my eye in.

Couldn’t get the sliding cover to work in reverse though, however it actually worked out well in the end.
