Let the build begin

Post by C Chis »

Been a little quiet of late... been MTB’ing in the spring sunshine Image

However, gave the old caddy a wash and fitted some rather nice, bargain priced roof rails and cross bars!

Now she looks like a van Image

Off for a wee drive to see how quiet and aero they really are!

Looks good mate. I put some roof rails on mine a few weeks ago. I can definitely hear a whistle at 60 plus. It’s not too bad though.

Hi buddy, cheers!

Yip, same here! A very, very slight whistle at about 70mph, nothing at 65mph, result!

Yeah, my whistle is ok. Rattles or whistling is fine when you know the cause. Drives you mad when you don’t!

Quick update on the wind noise...

Fitted the rubber strips to the channel on the aero bars and now the noise has gone, yay!!! Result!

Just a little update, not done anything extra, just been using the van to get to and from the trails whilst the good weather is here, 57 days on the bounce

And a wee update to the to do list...

1. Dukes of Hazard air horns (so ‘70’s)
2. TV/DVD/multimedia unit for the back
3. Interior unlocking button for the side door - diodes here, to be fitted
4. Engine/gearbox upgrade, power, more power... now a live project, on the search for a nice engine or a full donor car
6. TPMS
8. Climatronic upgrade (parts here, to install along with engine upgrade)
9. Heated seats - Touran leather ones fitted, wiring to do at same time as Climatronic upgrade.
10. Respray

So, the van developed a coolant leak last Friday afternoon, turns out it was the bottom radiator hose intermittently coming into contact with the power steering pump and it’s worn a tidy hole in the hose!
I thought I’d cured this issue when I bought the correct hose ( 1.9, bls with air con and hydraulic PS).

So looking at the hose coupling I thought that perhaps I could gently prise it apart and turn the outlet pipe, this i did to see if it would give more clearance around the pulley.
Image
Seems it does Image result!

Roll on 6 days, new replacement hose arrives, same part number, same supplier, same price even!

And... when compared to the old one with the now rotated coupling they have the same outlet angle, perhaps the first hose was made on a chilled out Friday afternoon before a party weekend?

Van back up and running with about 30mm of clearance between hose and pulley, result!

So, after several months of cans escaping from their cardboard cartons whilst driving and then rattling about in the back, very annoying ImageImage

Decided a small rack to keep the essentials tidy!

63mm spring clips, bit of spare timber, spare carpet, some 6mm rivnuts and roofing bolt later...
