Installed the 'life' dashboard trim inserts, hopefully the last piece for the interior .. unless I go mad and try trimming the dash

This is for the standard/cheapest option - "brushed". There's about 20 other colour options but the price increases dramatically.

Ordered from lllparts, as they were nearly half the price of VW. Quality seems great, but delivery took over 2 weeks when it was advertised at 3-5 days

Upgraded the intake to Darkside's full induction kit:

The turbo seems to spool louder and feels slightly more responsive, maybe? .. could very well be placebo though

Ah sorry, my mistake - one of the numbers should be 65 and the other should be 66. I'll amend them now!

My quote from VW direct was 40% more expensive than LLLparts, £249 from VW vs £159 from LLLparts.

I've seen quite a few people doing this on their golf's to improve intake temps when using the stock airbox.
So thought I might as well try turning what's left of my stock intake into a sort of 'cold air feed'

Started by dremelling-out the moulded closed sections on the right side of the intake cowl and the grille trim infront of it, so air can enter the cowl directly from the right side.


Then bought the OEM trim piece that blocks the opening on the left side of the intake cowl, forcing air towards the airbox instead of allowing it into the engine bay (5Q0-129-849).


Also had a go at trimming the airbox lid into a sort of shroud, might help funnel the air better into the cone but mainly it just looks a bit tidier than an open airbox.

nice mod for the induction kit and agree on the spoil time and sounds as I fitted one on my 1.6 a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to use a fair bit more fuel though so taken it off to see if it was just me.....or I was driving everywhere faster due to the sounds lol

Love the inserts to the doorcards! where they easy to do? I'm thinking of doing something similar but didn't want to go into it without knowing if there where any pitfalls etc. Great looking van by the way!

They were a little faff, you have to cut off the factory plastic welds to release the insert so you can carpet it.
Then sticking everything back together using the plastic you cut off originally.

One thing I'd do differently if I had to do it again is to get a soldering iron or a plastic welder with a melting attachment. That would make the process of putting everything back together much easier.

Tried looking for a prefab' false floor / draw unit, but everything seemed kinda expensive and didn't make best use of the space.
So I tried my hand at making one - not half bad, I think

Finally managed to source a kombi/life door card for a decent price.
The top half doesn't fit perfectly due to the metal lip where the window should be, but it's close enough.
