With the wheel turned and the seatpost clamp, clamped the bike is very secure and doesn’t move about in the back, with mine being a short wheel base van the bikes rear wheel just touches the back door with where I’ve positioned the clamp.

Cool!

Exactly what I'm going for :)

As I've got the Touran base in now, I've lost a little from the front section as it's now the rear bench footwell.

Although the front wheel fits in there fine, I'm going to make a drop in 'wheel holder' that it just slots in. Mainly to hold it level and off the carpet.

Today has been a fun day...

Yesterday I test fitted my other wheels and did some measurements before deciding on what coilovers/how much lower I want to go and thought I'd check to see if my injector was still leaking and it was... I checked the torque of the clamp bolt too and I already suspected the stretch bolt hadn't been changed... even with my 1/4" torque wrench and 7Nm... it went snap!

Oh well... a good time to get familiar with the 1.6 TDI I guess :)

Stripped the cam cover off to see what I was working with and how far down it'd snapped... it had gone below the camshaft carrier frame... so I knew that was coming off then!

Had a steady few hours stripping the timing belt and cam carrier off and managed to get the rest of the stud out by welding a nut on the last bit of remaining thread!

It was due a timing belt anyway so a new kit and water pump will be going on over the next few days when I have time between work and the early dark nights!

Could have done without it... but gave me a good excuse to do the timing belt and get to know the engine a bit more :D

Snap...

Still no sign... it's lower!

Can you spot it...?

A lucky break...

It's out!

Timing belt kit ordered for tomorrow. Will be fun re-fitting the camshafts I think!

Thanks!

Yeah, it was.

Sadly I sold the Caddy (and my Scirocco) and replaced it with a Touareg.

Nice thread and van (even thought you no longer have it) can you remember how much the rear seat brackets cost you? I’m trying to weight up either doing myself or getting a local caddy garage do the work (they charge £750, supply and fit)

Can't remember off the top of my head but I'm sure for the seats and brackets it was about £300

If you're not fully confident or capable then definitely get someone to do it.

Also, please get the proper seatbelt mounts for the top and a spreader plate for the bottom mounting.

Seen way too many bad jobs in seatbelt fixings

Thanks sounds like it’s worth giving this a go myself. I’m pretty confident with sort of thing. I will most definitely get all the correct fittings thanks again.
