The white caddy build that will keep snowballing

Post by Stevie White Cad »

How’s it going guys?!

So I’ve never really owned a VAG. My wife has had two golfs but I’ve always been a bmw owner ( don’t hate )

I have a rather large dog and a love of mountain biking that’s always seen me have a second car or van. After a little while I decided I’d buy something a little bit better looking than a old connect or an old Astra estate.

I found this for sale for a very reasonable price around 3 weeks ago.
Image

Hideous ride height and even worse wheel trims.
These had to go!

Image

Golf R pertoria’s on abs lowered on H&R lowering kit but I just wasn’t happy with the arch gap with the h&r springs.
So the same night I ordered some stance+ and away we went.

Image

It sits so much better with these and my H&R are now sat waiting for someone to buy them ( Hint Hint )

So last week I started on taking the bulkhead out. After removing one of the plyboards to get the bulkhead out I noticed lots of dirt.
My OCD got the better of me and I ripped all the boards out to give it a good clean.

Image

Oddly satisfying but that was another little job ticked off.

Whilst I was at it I removed the Caddy and Tdi chrome letters from the rear door and added my godsons race sticker.

She’s slowly getting there so I think in the next few weeks I’ll get started on the interior.

Looking good already. Do you have a picture of what it looked like on the h&r springs. May be interested.

Thanks mate.

The second picture down was on the H&R.

I’m also running 18s

So day I fitted my black badge ( extra 20bhp I reckon )

Image

Whilst I was at it I got the horrible 70mph limiter removed. Yes I know the speed limit is 70mph.

Image

Whilst he was at it I thought it would be rude not to remap it.
Now I wasn’t bothered about power in the van and it’s never going to blow my mind but what a difference very happy with it so far.

Busy few days on the old caddy.

Out with those grubby old mats!
Image

In with some nice clean touran carpets. Really straight forward job even for someone with limited capabilities like myself
Image

Next up was the seats. Having been ripped off on eBay on some nice q3 seats which the seller refused to send me because I got them too cheap I found some pristine mk5 GT seats only down the road from me so massive bonus.
Image

In they went…. Again a pretty straight forward job, however I did stupidly presume they would go on caddy bases. This did hold me up slightly but once the touran bases arrived it was a very easy install.
Image

Whilst the seats were out I thought it made sense to fit a touran armrest. Using the guide from this forum and using what limited skills I have I was struggling to make this fit. It just seemed so flimsy.
That was after I realised the armrest was literally a bare shell. Fortunately the seller was great and sent the remaining parts straight out. Once they arrived it didn’t take two minutes to fit.

Next up was a quick and easy mod.

Getting rid of those roof rails. Some people like them. I personally don’t so off they went.
Image

Really happy with the progress until……Well if I was to tell you I have a 1.6tdi what would you say….yep!! Injector.

Again with my absolute limited ability I thought I’d have a go at it. How hard could it be.
Image

Turns out getting the injector out can be a right Bast!
Any way after plenty of swearing she was freed and a new one put in its place l.
Image

Next up will now be touran doorcards and insulation, sound deadening and carpetting the back.

Did you have to code the injector mate?

Well not much movement on the caddy recently whilst I’m stuck in the gobi dessert.

I’d waited a fair while for a slot at the local spray shop and he hasn’t disappointed.
Colour coded door moulds, mirrors and side rail cover. Whilst he was as it I got abit of maintenance done so the front and rear bumpers got done. I actually replaced the front one as some of the paint had peeled and it made sense given a deal of the century for a grey bumper ( so the old bumper will be for sale soon )

Over the moon with how she’s coming together. I’ll be home in October so it’ll be getting carpeted and what not then. Few trims inside are looking abit grubby so they’ll be getting replaced too.

You replaced your injector and didn’t code it?
Might be worth checking it

The only thing I did was clear the code with a snap on tool but no coding as such. Unless that’s what you mean mate?

Cheers buddy. Really happy….for now.

Having been away with work for 4 months the progress slowed on the van.

I did manage to get it into a body shop to get a bit of colour coding done.

Image

Mirrors and door strips done plus front and rear bumper for touch ups. Looking a lot neater.

I have managed to get the back carpetted too. Soooo much better Image

I do need to do the flooring though. I don’t want carpet as it’ll have a trials bike and a mountain bike going in.
What are people using as an alternative?

Rubber is my preferred option, vinyl is a cheaper alternative but is less pliable when fitting. If neither of those suit your fancy then could go metal chequer plate.
