08 Caddy Maxi. Engine Replacement

I have a question for some of the Techi guys please

I feel the need to replace my 1.9 DSG motor (auto gearbox "critical") the old girl has 256000+ miles on the clock and as seen in previous post I need to replace the auto GB!

So what is the best option "straight swap" or find something a little more modern? I have dropped the front end by 2inches and hopefully replace the front body parts with a face lift model better lights

if I go down this route will I need to replace the wiring loom as well?

open to suggestions from "learnt lessons" all please
