1.9 tdi bls engine

Post by samB »

hi, my first post!

looking at buying a 2007 caddy with a 1.9 tdi bls engine, its fairly low mileage for the age around 80k. anything I should be looking out for specifically with these engines?

cheers

Cam belt and water pump. Have they been changed and when. Other than that a superb engine.

From recent experience,

As above and...

At that age you might have issues with the glow plugs if they haven’t been changed, they can take a bit of effort to remove!

If you have or can borrow a diagnostic scanner (VCDS/Carista or generic) a quick scan for any error codes would be useful.

Check all the doors lock, the rear is prone to corrosion if the high level brake light is cracked.

Spare wheel - is it underneath and can it be removed?

After saying the above they’re all easy enough to fix and it’s a good engine made better by a sensible remap!

Good luck and post up some pictures when you’ve bought it!
