I need the surround from a 2011+ Touran... My caddy has the 2 dial electric control but the Dash from my wife's touran had the 3 dial cable operated version .. it's just the trim from around the heater and stereo but can't get find one in a breaker for love nor money here in NI...

GeeDub SQ daily driver

So I’m designing my security system for the van & it turns out the rear windows are the top entry point even with the metal window plate inserts. I currently have clear heated glass so I’m abandoning my hunt for factory black glass and using the heating elements as a closed loop circuit to trigger the rear door input of my alarm so if Mr Miscreant cuts my window, the second he breaks the window contact the alarm will kick off. I was about to show how to build one from scratch but I’ve just found a DEI/Clifford 502T Closed Loop Sensor that’ll work on almost any alarm.
The heated element already works as a closed loop so nothing changes with that. There’s 2 wires per door, one is earth (Brown) and one is the loop (White). These are in the rear side panels above the arches.
Driver side is a Pink plug - Pin 1.

Passenger side is a Black plug - Pin 1.

I’ve run a wire from the door side of the driver side plug over to the passenger side because you’ll need the cables next to each other to connect into the 502T.
You only need the white wires as the browns are already running factory earth & the whites act as the loop so if any wire is disconnected the circuit is broken and the alarm triggers.

*Note*
You can’t just connect the wires to your alarm as car alarm triggers work by closed circuit to trigger & this is an open circuit to trigger.
Also, don’t connect the white wires together because nothing will happen.

A little schematic for those who enjoy little schematics Image

GeeDub SQ daily driver

So the only real progress of late has been off the van doing research & testing & buying bits. The bodywork is the current project….front Touran 2017 R-Line bumper is done, a 2019 RS3 rear bumper is almost done, and I'm mid fight on the rear barn doors with the electric Touran touch pad fitted in place of the caddy handle. After 5 uber complicated variations I've just realised a super simple way of doing it so everything works correctly! Info coming soon when it works Image

Not 100% decided yet on kit or locations, Ive had a 3 way active Audison setup for years moving from 1 car to the next ( voce speakers running off an AP8.9 and a JL W3 running off an AP1D ) wife has claimed most of that for her Caddy Life... If I ever get time to fit it.

I have the option of modifying the dash for speaker locations in mine ( might relocate the clocks etc to the middle ) I have a touran conversion in the garage so if I screw up the caddy dash it can go in for attempt 2.

I'd love to go all out on kit but with a wife and four youngsters now the budget isn't what it used to be for this stuff

A friend has a mk7 golf & I got envious of the slidey covered cup holder so out with the old and on with the mods!

I’ve cut the hole deliberately close to the front to give me the best chance to align the slider before it’s trimmed. Once it’s set in place it’ll be bonded & shaped to perfection but for now it’s how I need it.

Before with the stripped mk7 holder
Image

Cut out and flush the old holder
Image

Cut desired shape not forgetting to curve the back edge to match the handle contours and add 3mm for trimming material
Image

Check fit and celebrate Image

It looks out of line because the console is balancing on the holder & it’s not fixed together yet, plus no filler either so it’s not at all the finished job.

Great job on that cup holder. Toying with that idea myself and appreciate seeing more examples how to approach it.

So while the van is with the mechanics I’m kinda doing little odd jobs like smoothing out the lock hole in the rear grab handle.
I’ve figured 2 different ways of electronic release options and this is one step closer to acceptable symmetry ImageImage
Once I have the van back I’ll put up a “how to remote/electric barn door release” Image

So I saw this little treat on either Dan’s R360 build https://www.caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic ... 13&t=12081 or Listers Toffee Delights https://www.caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic ... 13&t=36629 (or possibly both) so thought I’d give it a shot while I’ve got the doors in bits but using the diffusers from an Audi A8 instead.

Before….

During…..

And after Image

They’ll be freshly painted satin black before being finally fitted so I’m not bothered about the sanding scratches Image
