Since all my interior was back in it was time to start to build a unit for the back. One that had storage and enabled it to be converted to a bed.

Started on the bare frame to start.
Image

Got all the drawer all made and some tops.
Image

Started on carpeting the unit.
Image

As i did't want it to be heavy i didn't enclose the sides and rear so used a mesh to carpet over.

This is coming along nicely. Really like the rear inside photo with the additional LED lights, looks quality and surprisingly OEM!

I think that is another good call at 'thinking outside the box' by using mesh covered with carpet on the non-structural areas of the camping box to cut down on weight.

Great build!

The unit is surprisingly light.

Got all the main parts carpeted and 3D printed a handle for the drawer.
Image

Got the unit all finished off. Used a floor mat for the area where your feet go. All fits spot on and bolted down to the existing rear seat frame bolts.
Image

Added a small flip up table on the right just need to sort out the material i want to make it out of.

Not a great deal of work done but still getting things delivered.

Got a super cheap set of twin reflector headlights so got them fitted and coded. Still waiting for my wheels to be finished but got a set of cheap TTRS reps in 19x8.5 ET45 with 235/35/19 where my wheels will be ET42. No issues and can change my tyres over once i get them.
Image

Quite like the wheels but see how my new ones look.

Got some tinted rear lights and reflectors to fit and Gaz rear shocks. Job for when its not raining out.

Have you noticed if these twin reflector units give an improved light projection over the standard units?

I've considered upgrading to these instead of the xenons, as they're usually much cheaper.

@BenXCIV
They are better if you are running an LED bulb as you get far less scattered light and high beam is much better. A worth while upgrade. Didn't want to spend £1k for the xenons then have to upgrade the them to 35W.

Great colour and project, very similar to what I'm looking to do but with a mk3.

Any other plans for it?

Plenty of plans just with my health issues i rarely have enough energy to do mods.

I have all the parts for the sirocco aux gauges
Focal front speakers and sound proofing doors
Puddle lights and looms for mirrors
Passat W8 interior light
LEDs for footwells
Vinyl wrap for dash parts
Set of 19" banded steel wheels
Side trims with chrome strip
Vinyl sun strip

Just need the time and energy to do them all.

Love this build, looking forward to updates.

How do you find the ride on 19's?

Ride isn't bad on the 19's. Much better since i had the st shortened front shocks on.

Bit of an update on the build.

Fitted the following.

Golf mk7 R front brakes and calliper's painted a custom colour to go with the colour of the car.
ST shortened front shocks and new top mounts. Ride is much improved over the oem shocks with the Eibach 60mm lowering springs.
Colour coded door trims with the chrome top section.
Stainless side bars.
Sun strip added.

Need to check if my 19" banded steels go over the brakes on the front now

Couple of updates to the maxi.

Standard cruise control upgraded to ACC. Had to install polo steering wheel buttons that were compatible with the car but all up and running.
Image

Then upgraded the instrument cluster to a colour 3D type. Even have the Caddy picture not the normal Touran.
Image

Sold my rotor wheels and changed them for Rotiform.
Image

Image

Started my front speaker install. 3D printed some mounts for the new Focal tweeters to fit the OEM grill.
Image

Still got plenty of jobs on my list to get sorted but getting there.
