Build Thread Hooligan Harv
Ok, so following on from my introduction thread I own a 2012 facelift Caddy, 1.6TDI (remapped to 150ish) with 40k miles on the clock.
It's just been serviced and MOT’d.
The van has had some light modifications, but after researching for the van and looking through the awesome threads and vans on here I've got a few ideas of my own. It will be a daily driver as well as a weekend warrior for some camping and motorsports spectating.
So most mods can't be too major as I need the van on the road.
I live in the South West (Wiltshire) so any local caddy people drop me a message coming from the JAP “scene” don’t have any VAG friends yet.
I'll post pictures later but initial mods list is:
Modifications so far:
- 18” Golf R wheels
- Custom Hybrid Remap (around 150bhp)
- Insulated & Sound deaden all round
- Two tone carpet rear (Light/Dark Grey)
- removed bullhead
- LED numberplate
- LED dynamic indicators
- side door rail cover (ordered but not yet fitted)
- 3D Printed Cup holder Insert
Future MODs I wish to do:
1 - Rear static bed (think of using an IKEA 1880 x 800 mattress on a custom frame)
2 - Head Unit Upgrade (with reverse camera and apple car play)
3 - Steering wheel with MFSW
4 - Foglight retrofit
5 - Options for glove box/dash box covers;
6 - lights in headlining (LED Strips or Spots)
7 - cruise control
8 - GTI red tartan seats
I will be putting each upgrade into my thread as I do work any advice will be appreciated

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
Hello again
Below is how the van currently looks, personal really like the black bumper, not so keen on the wing mirror so might get colour matched or carbon fibre covers, believe the red is called “SALSA Red” (paint code LA3H).
She needs a clean, but should hopefully be a good base for my project

About to finish cutting the bulkhead down making it into infill panels going between the carpeted rear and stand cab lining any advice? Seen a couple of YouTube videos it seems straightforward, what’s the worst that can happen

Hello again,
So ended up buying a side rail cover kit from Darks Development ments, the spent the last couple of days painting it with colour matched spray cans, personal think it looks the dogs bollocks, I’ve uploads some before and after shots to show you what difference it makes, even up close you can’t tell that it was painted by a enthusiast, what do you guys think?

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
Decided to have a go at tinting the rear windows, long story short but after 2 hours in the cold, not managing to get a result I was happy with I've decided to leave it to the professionals. Don’t know if it was the cheap tint or my inexperience but it’s not as easy as it looks.
Managed to get it to look ok from a couple of foot away but once you got up close it was a no from me

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
So a lot has changed since my last post, had the rear windows professional tinted (image on my Instagram @Hooligan_Harv) , 100x better than my attempt, I also brought and fitted some highline dash parts, and a 3D printed caddy cup insert (picture below).
Ordered some more trim fix to Finnish carpeting the cut down bulk head.
The Touran carpets I order arrived today so will fit them at the weekend.
Just about to head to TPS Bristol to pick up some parts to do the rear interior door handle mod (as shown in the “HOW TO fit an Interior rear door handle to the barn door” how to guide)

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
Hello again
This weekend I finally got around to fitting the Touran carpets I ordered, as well as fitting the interior rear door handle thanks to “mostlysimon“ for the brilliant write up.
I went for a set of “Grey” Touran carpets over the “jet black” ones as I think it looks better with the grey interior.
I would like to take the time to thank the many member of this group whom have written or contributed on the how to/ guide section with part numbers and step by step, plans it really makes working on my van a lot easier so cheers

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
For got to mention turns out the wheels are not from a Golf GTD and are actually an optional extra on the Golf R, the same as Standard on an Audi S3 but in a different colour!
I’ve edited my other post so that they are correct now

Nice van there ,Harv. How did you find fitting the sliding rail cover? Easy peasy?did you get the "inner rail" and if not how sturdy is it? I was set on getting the on from reflex which seemed to be the go to but then I saw darkside do this for a better price
63 plate 1.6tdi startline in reflex silver

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
Cheers mate appreciate the comment
The side rail was really easy to fit, I got the kit from DarkSide once painted, I took me 15 minutes to fit if that, I got the kit with a new rail as I wanted to make sure it lasted and look as OEM as possible. There’s a brilliant video on YouTube of how to fit them, the only real, special tool you need is a set of triple square bits (sometimes called: Spline or XYZ bits), can’t remember the exact size, but my set only goes from 5-12mm.

Re: Build Thread Hooligan Harv
First post for a while, but then it’s the first time I’ve got round to working on the van this year, fitted the aero wiper mod, interior door handle mod and courtesy lights. Cheers TommyZoom for supplying the wiring loom and lights. I really can’t be bothered with posting the photos here so if you want to see them there on my Instagram (@Hooligan_Harv)!
Also cheers to the respective posters whom made the how to guides and anyone whom commented with part numbers and advice, this forum is truly one of the best I’ve ever joined for the wealth of knowledge and advice
All the best
