Well… thought it was time to give the old girl a wash and spruce up… first one this year I think!

Engine bay starting to look clean(ish) again

Still a little shine left from last year… need to get rid of the swirls though Image

It's taken me most of today to read this whole thread - what a cool van!

Nicked a few ideas but I'll never get to this level - well done!

Thanks for taking the time to have read and good to know you’ve got a couple of ideas from it!

I’m just about to ditch the rattle cans and venture into the mystical world of spray painting with a spray gun! All because J_Con put me onto a tailgate!

Bank balance taking another hit!

Happy to help you spend your money instead of mines for a change!

I’ve picked up some mk4 tailgate lights if you are interested? They are too red for my liking after seeing them against my tinted ones

Haha…. I’ve already got tinted mk4 lights!

Started fabricating the blanking plates for the door retaining straps and the tailgate mounting opening. Working up the courage to actually use my new spray gun and compressor setup!

Cheers and thanks for making the time to have read through.

It’s looking a little sorry for itself at the moment… however… time to refresh

So, every winter when the frost comes my handbrake sticks on and takes a few miles to heat up/free off so time to get ahead of the winter blues

New handbrake cables and tubing

Out with the old cables
Image

Cable end stuck to the aluminium tubes, little bit of heat to soften the plastic and a good heave… freedomImage

Image

Comparing before fitting… no sealing face = water ingress = ice = seized cable

Image

Image

And ready to reconnect at the wheel once connected at the handbrake end.
Image

Job done, 2 hours and under £100 for both cables and aluminium pipes

Still to do before the weather really closes in….

LHS wheel bearing
LHS/RHS lower ball joints
Small bit of welding to the underneath at the sliding door, not structural, but needs cutting out, rust removed and new metal welded back in.
Leisure battery and split charger for my diesel heater and pressure washer (for my bikes now that winter is almost here)

Oh, and a barn door to tailgate conversion c/w repaint…

Just read through your build Colin, made an A4 sheet of upgrades, I can hear the plastic not being my flexible friend any more, what made you go for the vr6 over a tfsi /tsi ?

Cheers for having a read through…

Easy decision on the engine choice… the sound, purely the sound!

Never get tired of putting the windows down when going through a tunnel
