Caddy to .:R32 dsg 4motion conversion has it been done ?

Post by VR6boy »

Lads I am new here and wanted to ask if anyone has done or knows has anyone converted there caddy to 4motion ?

I have a 2008 golf .:R32 and a 2005 caddy van (see where this is going)

After having both up on the ramps beside each other here in work

I was thinking of having a look under a 4motion caddy to see if the boot floor is the similar to the golf one need to find one and take a test drive

After searching around on google with no luck at all I joined up here for some information

I know people will post here saying not worth the work and I hope you can weld etc

Any links or information please post up thanks

Welcome.

There is a member on here who has done the full R32 swap but I suspect you can't view the thread as its in a locked area. You'll have to get your post count up first.

The mechanical side looks straightforward enough if you can cut and weld or have someone you trust. The biggest headache seems to be the wiring.

As far as I remember, we never got the 4motion Caddy in the UK, although it's now an option on the Maxi.

I've got a MK4 R32 and love how sure footed it is in bad weather and would have preferred the Caddy to be 4wd.

Cheers for the reply dan

Post count may be a bit of a problem as I am not a post whore but if I have something to say ....

Cutting welding fabrication wiring and wiring looms are not a big problem

Cheers

if you want to run the 4x4 the best way to do it so that you can get the van to handle well is to put the back end fron a golf /Passat into the caddy , you only need the sides but its easier to put the whole thing up.
use the car loom , don't mess about with trying to use the caddy loom an mate the 32 engine loom to it , its a lot of messing about , chop 115mm out of the rear prop shaft bing bang bosh .

seems to be the big thing atm , I know of two on hear that are doing it an there are two localy to me doing it too ,,,,,sounds like we should start getting a few track days sorted out . :-)
if it aint broke an it dont need fixing , then its time to make it go faster .

The plan

1. Is to cut the whole boot floor out of the MK5

2. Use wherever is possible to use Mk5 full wiring loom and modify where needed

3. Use .:R32 full running gear and brakes

The caddy is still being used every day at the moment so more plans and thinking will be done when time permits

Any ideas or recommendations are welcomed

You may not to fully remove the floor/wheelarches in the rear. You can buy 2nd hand rear subframes for the mk5 R32 (or possibly even a MKII Audi TT Quattro) and then cut away sections to make it fit, then weld in your custom brackets for the suspension pickup points, some boxing in, shortened driveshafts and away you go.

This is what you need, a subframe, Haldex unit, prop shaft and the suspension

You might have to consider modifying the fuel tank - I can't remember if it was mentioned in the other thread what they had to do.

You need to take out the caddy chassis rails regardless of how you bolt the mk5 frame on, as they are further apart than the mk5 rails.
