Starting problems help!!!????

Post by StevieD »

Hi....I've got a 2005 "55" caddy TDI with 126k when my van has been left for a few hours occasionally ( and it's got gradually more common!!) it just turns and turns the oil light comes on then after approximately 10-15 seconds of turning and pumping the pedal it gradually starts!!
Once it starts it's fine runs all day no problems then when I finish work it occasionally does it again(but getting more often by the weeks!!) it seems like the fuel is somehow slowly getting back to the tank, then when I come to start it,it's taking 10-15 seconds to get it back up again!
Has anyone else had this problem...please help!!

Air leak due to a cracked fuel line, or a blocked diesel filter? Does it smoke a lot when cranking? White smoke?

Probably injector seals leaking, sometimes cylinder head develops ridges in the injector bores and the head needs checked for that when the injectors are out.

Nah...little bit of smoke nothing major.
When I first turn it,it goes to start then it just turns for 10-15seconds then starts,it's as if there's a little bit of diesel in there it try's to start then you have to wait for the rest to get back up from the tank??????

I had this problem when I first had my 57 1.9tdi caddy. First turn would crank the engine for a second then stop.2nd turn would crank over for ages with my foot to the floor and the oil light would come on and beep.3rd turn it started with a bit of wagging the throttle like a carbed engine on a cold morning. Tried a few diagnostics and they came up with nothing.it did it about 10 time then cleared.i never did find out what it was.
