Re: 20v turbo engine conversion
That's at leat 3 of us with the 20v turbo engine on here then! My donor car was an Audi S3 so used the s3 throttle welded into place, custom 3" inch exhaust (de cat) made, and also had to re route washer bottle as turbo pipes in the way. I did not have the know how to do the wiring myself, but I have learned a lot about the workings of the electronics of a modern car in the process as I have been guilty of just sending my car to the garage before getting this project. (much respect mrpurple) I have the 6 speed 4wd gearbox in the van, and am looking at the possibility of connecting this up in the future. I also have the imomabilzer deleted, but had a that that thatchem alarm fitted for the insurance

Re: 20v turbo engine conversion
I was going to use the 4wd box, it was bolted in wit the first engine but was making a knocking so I changed it for a 2wd one as I didn't have time to strip the box down and fix it, van was booked to go to to MIVW so really didn't want to miss that. May go 4wd at some point, bit beyond my capability is fabricating the haldex rear end mounting but luckily I know a man that can.

Re: 20v turbo engine conversion
I had the loom, clocks and keys from a donor with a view of changing these over. However when I took the dash out and looked at the size of the job, went down the route of modifying the existing harness as an easier route. Good luck with the job and will watch with interest so keep us informed.

Re: 20v turbo engine conversion
Best way to do the wiring is to integrate it into what you already have. Not worth taking the whole loom out to modify it that way as it's more work than is necessary and will not be as well done as a loom that is built in situ, with all the wiring put into the right place and then properly wrapped when complete. That's just my opinion and with something like this there are many options to do it.

It's a MAJOR job to remove everything!mrpurple wrote:Best way to do the wiring is to integrate it into what you already have. Not worth taking the whole loom out to modify it ...
I'm making diagrams and cross reference charts for my R32 conversion in the Touran - a lot of the ECU wires can be swapping directly into the ECU connectors for me, and the few wires that need adding, can be run to the fuse boxes or connectors, and fitted with the correct terminal to fit. The car itself will be staying basically intact, and the add onswill be fitted to look as OEM as possible.
Doing it in place makes it easy to fit the correct lengths, and run them the right routes, without stressing or breaking wires.
Regardless of what way you're most comforatble with, it's a lot of work!
Well done guys - and GOOD LUCK!
