VCDS MFSW Help please

Post by Relentless »

I have today fitted a multi function steering wheel with a new clock spring which i believe should support MFSW however when i go to code it on i don't get the option to do so have i missed something as i'm using VCDS for the first time below is the auto scan for thye steerin wheel before and after fitment have i missed one of the modues that need changing. can't seem to find a complete write up of what is needed.

scan before changing things

they appear to be the same despite the clock spring now being 5k0 953 549 "E" the old one didn't have a suffix
it sees the MFSW module in the steering wheel 5K0 959 542

Caddy is a 2011 face lift maxi ex British gas

i know i'm probably missing something just need help to see what it is

It looks as though the module hasn't been changed, ever the serial number is the same.
Have you by chance fitted the old module back by mistake?

definitely changed the clock spring and the steering wheel, did i miss something else i should have changed? i thought the steering wheel control module is part of the clock spring on the 2011 caddys.

i am trying to code it on in module 16 for steering wheel

reading out the module IDs comes as

it reads the new hadware with the "E" suffix and serial number 90440LIH000E0 but the van remembers its original part and serial number have i skipped a stage where its supposed to learn the newer module? done ignition cycles and battery resets nothing seems to work

The stalks shouldn't need changing, the coding is all in the combined SWCM/slipring module.
Your coding before and after is exactly the same, did you try coding the new module for MFSW?

i don't get the option for mfsw
i get
bit 0 steering angle sensor
bit 3 automatic transmission (ignition key removal lock)
bit 4 rear wiper installed
bit 5 button for driver assist system installed
bit 6 board computer controlled by wiper lever
bit 7 special handling for audi models active
could this be the first "E" that doesn't support MFSW
the only thing i got out of today is the buttons light up lol and a flat battery due to drl's being on with the igntion

Those are the bits from the first byte (byte 0) in the hex string.
Byte 3 or 4 should have a drop box to alloy the coding of MFSW vis Lin 2.0

last night i had the thought that you click on the individual boxes and get more options for that part, tried it this moring and it was correct (no news to those of you who know what you are doing lol) i got the dropdown box for MFSW LIN 2.0 and coded the car to that. let the ignition die off and car go to sleep. turned it on again and still the buttons don't work doh. and yes this was at 4 in the morning first thing i did when i got up for work, its really bugging me
thanks Doic for your help so far

Finally sorted with help from Doc, it seems i forgot the enable the MFD in the cluster, i thought it would detect it when the MFSW was enabled but i guess it doesn't work that way. Top Job Doc Thanks for your time cheers
