False floor ideas

Post by Harrier »

I'm hoping to fit a false floor, with drawers over the next few weeks. Well, I'll be honest I don't really know where to start, 2x2 frame and then ply on top? Or ply boards, running front to back and then ply on top?

All ideas, or plans, welcome. If you've done it, your advice would be most welcome.

Cheers.

Check out my build thread. I made one for mine, and recently re-made it again in better materials

I've done one in mine too, no drawers ATM, but that would only be a case of adding drawer runners and making drawers

I've fitted a false floor in mine with 3 drawers from rear and 1 from the side door. Every thing is fastened in using threaded inserts and SS machine screws so the whole lot could be removed is ever needed.

40x40mm frame, all mortice and tenon glued joints machine screwed to 12mm Lloyds grade marine ply.

12mm ply top, in 2 sections, machine screwed in place. Front top access hatch cut for split-charger and second battery.

Side door drawer (not finished in this photo)

And the rear drawers. 2 short and 1 full length for the longer stuff I carry. In this case it's swan hooks, dog grasper and pole nets use for wildlife rescue. Decided against drawer runners as this would have reduced the drawer width too much.

Hope this is of some help to you
Regards Kevin.

I done my works caddy with 18mm ply with B/Gas racking cut down. This worked really well as a service vehicle but was very restrictive on what I could carry.
My current caddy was racked out when I bought it with 12.5mm ply and I added the cabinets to give me more storage. She's no competition winner but I can get a lot in and is more usable than my old company van. It's well worth the effort fitting a false floor just design it around your needs.

Hi,
Good design. Love the fact it can be removed if needed.

How easy do the drawers slide without runners? Ok?

I know I'm probably taking the p but would you please give a 'kit' list, save me getting too much or too little?

Thanks.

@Tyler

That looks great.

Did you find a way to access the space from the front end behind the 2nd row of seats ?

Just got the floor to do on mine tomorrow, wish I had seen this thread a few weeks ago although it wouldn't have changed my design.
My draws are quite deep so they can hold steel power tool boxes upright and all my stock.

2 draws that exit at the rear and one from the side door.

Im sorting some hosting out to start my build thread.
