I’m fairly confident that it is going to be the RCA cable, and I fear I may have damaged it somewhere around the rear light area. I’ll look into it tomorrow. But not too early as I’m on a night shift!

Well it’s not the RCA lead. I had a spare lying round so tried that and still nothing!

I should add that there’s a manual override button on my head unit to turn the camera on and even before I’d added the relay I was getting no picture.
I’ve also used 2 different inputs on the fuse box as I accidentally wired it up to permanent live, so it’s not that.
I need to try another camera ideally!

Is your camera video output correct for the headunit? PAL/NTSC?

Hi Doc, Thankyou for your input mate. The camera is NTSC and I’ve set the head unit to that too.
I’ve just had another look with my multimeter and I definitely have a voltage reading of 13/14 volts with the engine running at the last connector before the wires go to the camera. I’m going to remove the camera and check that last bit of wire. After that it’s a new camera I think

Try the camera right up at the head unit. Just hook it up to the cigarette lighter or some other source. That'll rule out a lot.

Reverse camera issues.

Post by the swan fiend »

Hi Doc. Just to confirm I’ve done this correctly. (Novice as you know) I hooked a wire from pin 30 spade connector that supplies my relay from ignition live at fuse box. Tested it and got 14 volts. Put the other end of the wire in the red plug and got no picture still. Here’s a pic of the power plug on my camera.....it’ll be an accurate test with me just pushing a wire inside it I hope? Image

I’ve just realised that I shouldn’t have done that mate. I’ll have to pull the whole wire out of the rear door tomorrow mate.

Right....I’ve done what you said and I’ve managed to get a picture on the screen.
Something is obviously wrong with my wiring, but I don’t know what
Thankyou very much for your input so far gents
Not sure where to go from here??

I passed the power lead from the rear to the front of the van as I felt it easier for me. I snapped the soldered connection for the power lead and the ground connection. I had to re do them before the camera worked. I’ve now taken the wire to the rear of the van and ground it to the point about the wheel arch and it’s working. Must’ve been a dodgy bit of soldering or connecting I’d done. Lesson learned.
Gents. Thankyou very much for your advice and patience with me on this. It’s very much appreciated

It worked......for a bit!! Blank screen again! Now I know it’s going to be something simple. Ground or power on camera.
