And in the beginning...

Post by reflectionghost » Thu Dec 05, 2019 4:37 pm

Hi! I recently got myself a Caddy 1.6tdi and I’ve got notions, so I said I’d start a build thread. I have plans to fit it out with a temporary camping system, so I’ll be insulating and lining the rear. I’ll also be remapping and lowering a little, and doing countless other bits and pieces I’m sure. I’ve already got some nice Audi wheels sorted as you can see below. This will be a slow burn. I’d rather do this right rather than do it quickly, and this is my starting point. Any tips or suggestions I’m all ears :) Image

Also, I'm well aware the van is filthy, so there's no need to mention that... :P

It has the ugly and squeaky (but actually pretty comfortable) plastic seats. I'd love to upgrade to something a bit 'warmer'. Do MK4 Golf seats fit? Or A6 C6? I've seen a pair of each available online nearby.

Nt sure on the A6, but mk4 seats have different rails.
Need to be mk5 onwards

the nice, easy mod for the seats are any of the small VAG cars....ive got Audi A1 s-line seats in half leather in mine....literally four bolts to replace them, 10 mins a side (as long as you don't round any off!)
I think the more modern polo, Skoda fabia (the VRS are nice) seat ibiza ...that sort of range.
Other than that, there are some that are easier to make fit than others.....or you get some Touran seat bases, and I believe you can bolt up pretty much anything to them, but they lift you up a bit.... You pays your money etc....!

I like my A1 seats...they are the nuts! Oh, and from a three door car....you can tilt em forward, which makes sleeping in the back perfect for me @6' tall 183cm...as well as that little jacking lever on the side, which is lovely on longer drives, as I can straighten my old bones up a bit!

Thanks a million. That’s very useful info. There are countless small vag cars around for parts so I’ll look into that. Gotta put some effort into selling my old berlingo so I can free up some cash

Santa brought me a new stereo. Bluetooth, nav, and most importantly an auxiliary input. Image

Ran the gps antenna today. Still need to run the microphone. Has anyone got any tips on where to mount it? And the best way to run the cable, preferably without having to dismantle the whole interior

I haven't done it yet, but I picked up a new cabin interior light from travelinlite ....this has a small grill where the handsfree mic normally sits behind. When I run mine, thats where it's going to sit!

Thanks. I was actually looking at these today. Looks like I will have to dismantle the whole thing

Half way through fitting some fabric seats from an A6. Got them for €40. Couldn’t pass these up at the price. And I’m delighted to be rid of the plastic lumps that were in it. Image
