mods this month.....bonnet insulation, front fog lamps and the side rail cover

parts needed.....1xcover..get it painted
1x rail...this needs to be modified by making and fitting a bracket to line up with the holes in the new cover trim and fixing it to the new rail ( do this on the bench before attempting to fit )
1x clip...part number 7HO-843-658-A

tools..... various handtools,plus a number 5 and 8 multispline

1, open sliding door and remove rail fixing screw that's inside the sliding door shut
2, close sliding door and remove trimboard
3, remove centre sliding roller bolts inside the door ( 8 multispline )
4, from outside carefully open sliding door while supporting it's weight, open slightly and remove roller, reshut sliding door back on striker.
5, remove small plastic trim on rear of rail, just pull off from rear
6, remove the rest of the rail fixings

refit in reverse order

Thanks bud, didn't know about the clip, gonna hafta order that while mine is being painted, hat part is the clip for?
Did you get a new rail or just use your own, I might get one from a breakers and have it all ready to fit.
Seen one of my mates has a sportline spoiler today, he had no problem ordering it, no 20 questions or sportline chassis number needed.

Hi Doc, the clip is for the cover at the rear end and clips into the body in the hole vacated by the small plastic trim, I bought a new rail because there are two spot welded brackets with special clips already on it, but it still needs modifing with a bracket, I can't find anything original on the VW parts fische so I had to make one.

Was that rail included in the £26 part?
Have you a part number for it otherwise?
This could turn out to be expensive.

cover = £26
rail = £21
clip = can't remember, had to buy a packet so got loads of spares
home made bracket = years of experience of making things
paint = working in the right place

Phoned the dealer today to order all the bits, They are on back order from Germany It'll take about two weeks .I guess everybody on here ordered a set!!
btw the rear clip was available@0.75p each

Just an update on the side rail, Have fitted mine now,
I saw a caddy life in the showroom and investigated the mysterious front clip! It appears to be pressed metal and is part of the side panel!!!!, certainly nothing that can be ordered separately
