Swan’s caddy build

Post by the swan fiend »

I’ve inspected and rebuilt the latch today, I’m glad to say everything inside was fine. It looks like just the microswitch was at fault, hopefully put it back together properly! I’ve tested it with the key and all seems fine.

Love the van and all the ideas for the mods!

My ebay watch list is growing by the day reading through all these build threads!

Turns out that the microswitch that I ordered wasn’t a good fit. It seems the place I bought it from advertised a picture of an OEM one and sent me a generic Chinese one.
I managed to squeeze it in and it’s not making properly so that’s that.
Next up, the latch isn’t locking with either the button or the key so there’s something wrong with the way I’ve put it back together.
I’m wondering weather to see if I can sort the switch position and look at the lock again, or just get a new one for a quick fix. I don’t fancy a 2nd hand one, incase I buy another one with a worn switch . Nor do I want a cheap Chinese ebay special, so a genuine one it will have to be!

What switch/module do you need? I have the front half of a caddy going to scrap soon, might be able to salvage something?

Another day of fiddling and I’ve fixed the lock. I altered the microswitch housing and that cured that problem (Chinese engineering at its best!)
I then had a play with the latch and learnt what did what and it tuned out that when putting the 2 sections together, I didn’t connect the mechanism that links the two sections and allows it to lock.
Now all working as it should. I’m happy that I’ve learned something that I think is valuable. Confidence is also restored

At least your sorted, it’s frustrating when you think you’ve done it right first time but have to keep going back to it

It was getting rather frustrating yeah mate. Especially as I couldn’t see where I’d originated gone wrong.

I’ve had a few moments like that and in my frustration thinking it’s the wrong part ordered another only to realise I originally had the right one

Thanks Chris Image

@brooneye, we have all done it mate. Its part of the learning curve.

The van is going to take a back seat for a bit. I need to concentrate on these for a while Image

After the van passing it’s MOT Friday gone. I’ve ordered a service kit from TPS. I was pleased with £71 for oil and all filters.
Next job is to book some time on the ‘rent a ramp’ place a few miles down the road. I can’t be bothered lying on the ground in February, nor am I keen on getting underneath with axle stands/chocks etc etc.
